Dynamic compaction of cohesive granular materials: scaling behavior and bonding structures.

The compaction of cohesive granular materials is a common operation in powder-based manufacture of many products. However, the influence of particle-scale parameters such as bond strength on the packing structure and the general scaling of the compaction process are still poorly understood. We use particle dynamics simulations to analyze jammed configurations obtained by dynamic compaction of sticky particles under a fixed compressive pressure for a broad range of system parameter values.

Cranial reconstruction after a post-craniotomy empyema.

This article presents a case report of a cranioplasty performed after a post-craniotomy empyema with osteitis. The skull reconstruction was performed using a bioceramic implant and a combined muscular free flap of latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior. This procedure not only provided coverage of a wide skull defect but also allowed the filling of the intracranial dead space.

[Epidural intracranial hematomas: practical issues revealed by management of 100 recent cases].

We present a retrospective study on the management of 100 patients who presented epidural hematoma over a four-year period. Our goal was to provide an update on management of this injury. Computed tomography was performed because of the clinical presentation.

Unruptured intracranial aneurysm presenting with epiletic seizure.

Intracranial aneurysms are frequently present with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Less often they produce suggestive symptoms of cranial nerve dysfunction or intracranial tumor when very large. Their association with epilepsy has rarely been reported; such concurrence may not be a coincidence.

Orbital subdural hematoma should be considered in victims of head and face trauma with signs of exophthalmia. Early diagnosis and treatment, consisting of decompression, is mandatory to avoid long-term functional complications.
