The lymphocyte population must traverse a complex path throughout their journey to the liver. The signals which these cells must detect, including cytokines, chemokines and other soluble factors, steer their course towards further crosstalk with other hepatic immune cells, hepatocytes and biliary epithelial cells. A series of specific chemokine receptors and adhesion molecules drive not only the recruitment, migration, and retention of these cells within the liver, but also their localisation.

Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by the progressive destruction of intrahepatic bile ducts, leading to fibrosis, and potentially cirrhosis. PBC has been considered a prototypical autoimmune condition, given the presence of specific autoantibodies and the immune response against well-defined mitochondrial autoantigens. Further evidence supports the interaction of immunogenetic and environmental factors in the aetiology of PBC.

This study aims to optimize the reduction of free fatty acids (FFAs) in palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) using hydrodynamic cavitation reactors (HCRs) in series and a solid acid catalyst for biodiesel production. Hydrodynamic cavitation is used to accelerate the esterification of FFAs using a heterogeneous acid catalyst. There are three HCRs units, and each HCR composed of a 3D-printed rotor and stator, is separated by flanges and equipped with a basket for holding Amberlyst-15 catalyst.
