Many sex-determining genes (SDGs) were generated as neofunctionalized genes through duplication and/or mutation of gonadal formation-related genes. We previously identified dm-W as an SDG in the African clawed frog Xenopus laevis and found that a partial duplication of the masculinization gene dmrt1 created the neofunctionalized dm-W after allotetraploidization by interspecific hybridization. The allotetraploid Xenopus species have two dmrt1 genes, dmrt1.

Background: Four ohnologous genes (sox1, sox2, sox3, and sox15) were generated by two rounds of whole-genome duplication in a vertebrate ancestor. In eutherian mammals, Sox1, Sox2, and Sox3 participate in central nervous system (CNS) development. Sox15 has a function in skeletal muscle regeneration and has little functional overlap with the other three ohnologs.

This phase 1b study assessed safety and efficacy of EOS789, a novel pan-inhibitor of phosphate transport (NaPi-2b, PiT-1, PiT-2) on intestinal phosphate absorption in patients receiving intermittent hemodialysis therapy. Two cross-over, randomized order studies of identical design (ten patients each) compared daily EOS789 50 mg to placebo with meals and daily EOS789 100 mg vs EOS789 100 mg plus 1600 mg sevelamer with meals.

Simultaneous determination of zircon U-Pb age and titanium concentration for a single analysis spot gives both the crystallization age and temperature. In laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analysis, it is challenging to quantitatively analyse a low level of titanium concentration. Two approaches were employed using a quadrupole mass spectrometer equipped with a collision/reaction cell (CRC).
