Animal models of N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxy butyl) nitrosamine (BBN)-induced urothelial carcinoma (UC), particularly bladder cancer (BC), have long been established. However, the rare incidence of BBN-induced upper urinary tract UC (UTUC), which originates from the same urothelium as BC, remains elusive. The scarcity of animal models of UTUC has made it challenging to study the biology of UTUC.

Background: Both intraoperative hypotension and excessive fluid administration can lead to detrimental perioperative complications. However, how much fluid is considered excessive and how is intraoperative hypotension related to major postoperative complications?

Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study in 6243 patients undergoing complex spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 2012 and 2022 and studied the relationship between intraoperative net fluid administration and intraoperative hypotension with major postoperative complications. The primary outcome was a collapsed composite of postoperative complications including acute kidney injury (AKI), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions.

: Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is a serious complication following hepatic resection for Klatskin tumors, significantly affecting patient prognosis. Identifying reliable preoperative and early postoperative predictors of PHLF can help optimize patient outcomes and guide surgical planning. : We conducted a retrospective review of 34 patients who underwent hemi-hepatectomy for extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma at Kosin University Gospel Hospital between April 2019 and April 2024, and at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital between September 2017 and April 2024.
