[VAD regimen for multiple myeloma--the effectiveness as first line therapy].

VAD regimen, combining vincristine, doxorubicin, and dexamethasone was given to 6 previously untreated and 4 treated patients with multiple myeloma. The response rate was obtained in 67% of previously untreated patients and in 50% of previously treated patients. In responders, a rapid improvement of clinical symptoms accompanied with a significant decrease in M-protein was observed.

[A case of massive hemorrhagic enteritis due to rotavirus].

We described a 8-month-old boy of massive hemorrhagic enteritis due to rotavirus complicated by shock. As far as we know, this case is the first patient who developed vascular collapse from the gastrointestinal tract bleeding by rotavirus infection. Clinicians should be alerted to the possibility of the occurrence of severe hemorrhagic enteritis as a life threatening complication in rotavirus induced enteritis.

[The role of surgery in the management of small cell lung carcinoma].

Small cell lung carcinoma is responsive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but long-term survival of patients is rarely seen. We analyzed resected 19 patients with small cell lung carcinoma. The overall 5-year survival rate of resected patients was approximately 30% and mean survival time (MST) was 50 months.
