Does double distal locking reduce non-union rates in intramedullary nailing for humeral shaft fracture?

Introduction: Intramedullary nailing is one of the surgical treatments for humeral shaft fracture. Non-union is a common complication, with rates of 10-20%. The objective of this study was to compare non-union in humeral shaft fractures treated by intramedullary nailing with double distal locking, single distal locking or no locking.

Improvement in the primary and secondary prevention of osteoporosis by a Fracture Liaison Service: feedback from a single French center care pathway.

Unlabelled: Osteoporosis is responsible for fragility fractures, thus causing significant morbidity and mortality. This study shows that care pathways, such as Le Mans General Hospital Fracture Liaison Service, are useful and efficient in improving the prevention of osteoporosis and of its consequences.

[Dorsal radiocarpal joint dislocation for an 85-years-old woman].

The authors report the case of a dorsal, closed, radiocarpal dislocation with a small posterior marginal fracture of the radius, in an 85-year-old woman, without violent trauma (fall from her height). The dislocation was reduced by traction and the wrist immobilized in a plaster cast for 6 weeks. Six months after the accident, the patient had resumed her activities without pain with a diminished range of motion.

Introduction: Metastatic malignant tumors of the hand are unusual. We describe a patient with gastric cancer.

Observation: A 64-year-old man in remission of a gastric adenocarcinoma treated surgically one year previously was admitted to hospital for a pain of the right hand associated with an edema.

[Spontaneous rupture of extensor pollicis longus in systemic lupus erythematosus].

We report a case of spontaneous rupture of extensor pollicis longus of the left hand. This 63 year-old woman was treated with oral corticosteroids for 23 years because of systemic lupus erythematosus. Her hands had no deformity.
