Article Synopsis
  • Hepatic portal venous gas is a rare condition linked to severe bowel issues like ischemic colitis or cancer, as illustrated by a case involving a 72-year-old man with ileocecal cancer and sepsis from Klebsiella pneumoniae.
  • The patient was admitted for diabetes control but developed fever and septic shock without typical abdominal symptoms; imaging revealed gas in the portal vein, indicating a serious underlying infection.
  • Early detection through abdominal ultrasound was crucial, highlighting that hepatic portal venous gas should prompt urgent investigation to address potential infections or complications from underlying conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin disease that causes intense itching, and dupilumab is a treatment that can help relieve its symptoms, although it may not work equally fast for facial areas in all patients.
  • A study analyzed skin samples from the foreheads and abdomens of patients with moderate to severe AD and healthy controls to see how cytokine levels vary in different body areas.
  • It was found that certain cytokines linked to Th1 and Th17 responses were more prevalent on the forehead, while Th2 cytokines showed varied expression—suggesting that these differences in cytokine profiles could influence how well AD treatments work in different areas of the body.

However, this is based on low-certainty evidence. We could not find any recommendations for skin closure.
