Objectives: The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducts active surveillance for typhoid fever cases caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (Typhi). Here we describe the characteristics of the first two cases of mph(A)-positive azithromycin-resistant Typhi identified through US surveillance.
Methods: Isolates were submitted to public health laboratories, sequenced, and screened for antimicrobial resistance determinants and plasmids, as part of CDC PulseNet's routine genomic surveillance.

Setting: Ophthalmology Unit, Hospital del Salvador, University of Chile (tertiary care hospital).
Design: Double-masked, prospective randomized controlled trial.
Aim: To determine the prevalence of refractive error in 5- to 17-year-old schoolchildren in Puerto Rico.
Methods: A quantitative descriptive study of 2867 children aged 5 to 17y from all seven educational regions of Puerto Rico was conducted from 2016-2019. Refractive error was determined static and subjective refraction.
Considering an uncertain demand, this study evaluates the potential benefits of using a multiskilled workforce through a k-chaining policy with k≥2. For the service sector and, particularly for the retail industry, we initially propose a deterministic mixed-integer linear programming model that determines how many employees should be multiskilled, in which and how many departments they should be trained, and how their weekly working hours will be assigned. Then, the deterministic model is reformulated using a two-stage stochastic optimization (TSSO) model to explicitly incorporate the uncertain personnel demand.
