Unexpected Increase in Invasive Group A Streptococcal Infections in Children After Respiratory Viruses Outbreak in France: A 15-Year Time-Series Analysis.

In a 15-year pediatric time-series analysis, we showed a rise of invasive Group A streptococcal (iGAS) infections since October 2022, mainly involving pleural empyema, simultaneously to a respiratory virus outbreak. Physicians should be aware of this increased risk of pediatric iGAS infections, especially in settings with intense respiratory viruses' circulation.

Thesaurus-Based Hierarchical Semantic Grouping of Medical Terms in Information Extraction.

In this paper we describe a semantic approach for grouping medical terms into a hierarchy of concepts based on the UMLS meta-thesaurus. The context of this work is Medical Recap, a Web system that automatically extracts risk information from PubMed abstracts, and then aggregates this knowledge into dependence graphs or Bayesian networks.

Extracting Dependence Relations from Unstructured Medical Text.

Dependence relations among disease and risk factors are a key ingredient in risk modeling and decision support models. Currently such information is either provided by experts (costly and time consuming) or extracted from data (if available). The published medical literature represents a promising source of such knowledge; however its manual processing is practically infeasible.

[Predictive factors of recurrence after surgery in severe attacks of hemorrhagic ulcerative proctocolitis].

Aim: The purpose of our study was to determine clinical, biological or endoscopic factors that predict surgery after a glucocortico steroid treatment failure in severe attacks of ulcerative colitis.

Methods: Sixty one patients were analyzed. A therapeutic response for glucocorticosteroid was defined as the absence of resort to surgery within the first 30 days after hospitalization.
