Background: Tocilizumab is effective in treating severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the specific time point it acts as a valid indicator of treatment efficacy remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the optimal day for assessing the prognostic value of the oxygen saturation/fraction of inspired oxygen (SpO/FiO) and ratio of respiratory rate-oxygenation (ROX) index in patients receiving tocilizumab for COVID-19.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) may be effective in preventing obesity and type II diabetes; however, there are no established reports on exercise-induced changes in BAT. This study focused on BAT variability in women undergoing resistance training (RT) interventions twice weekly for 10 weeks in cold environments. Fifteen participants were recruited: seven were randomly assigned to an RT group and eight to a control (CT) group.

Atypical femoral fracture (AFF) is generally a rare complication of long-term use of bisphosphonate (BP); glucocorticoid (GC) use and Asian race are also risk factors. Femoral localized periosteal thickening (LPT, also termed "beaking") of the lateral cortex often precedes AFF. This cohort study investigated the incidence of LPT and AFF and their clinical courses over 10 yr in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) treated with BP and GC.

Article Synopsis
  • This paper presents a new reconstructive technique using a transorally inserted Cosmofix fixation plate, which is less invasive and more aesthetic.
  • It describes two cases of stage 3 medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) where a segmental mandibulectomy was performed, followed by successful reconstruction.
  • The new method shows promising results with good occlusion and no aesthetic issues after over a year, making it suitable for high-risk patients, unlike traditional surgeries that involve facial incisions.
