Clinical effects of low-dose aspirin (LDA) on embryo implantation still remains controversial; therefore, we investigated the appropriate timing for starting LDA in frozen-thawed embryo transfer (ET) cycles. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 885 infertile women who underwent thrombophilia screening between 2020 and 2023. We recruited first frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer cycles in 553 consecutive women aged < 40 years.

Background: Medical advances in intensive care units (ICUs) have resulted in the emergence of a new patient population-those who survive the initial acute phase of critical illness, but require prolonged ICU stays and develop chronic critical symptoms. This condition, often termed Persistent Critical Illness (PerCI) or Chronic Critical Illness (CCI), remains poorly understood and inconsistently reported across studies, resulting in a lack of clinical practice use. This scoping review aims to systematically review and synthesize the existing literature on PerCI/CCI, with a focus on definitions, epidemiology, and outcomes for its translation to clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • A new multipoint traction device was developed to improve endoscopic submucosal dissection, and it was tested in both ex vivo and in vivo studies.
  • The study found that using this device increased resection speeds significantly compared to traditional methods, and no complications occurred during the procedures.
  • The results suggest that this device enhances safety and efficiency in endoscopic submucosal dissection, potentially simplifying the procedure for medical professionals.

Article Synopsis
  • PIVKA-II is a marker used to diagnose hepatoma (liver cancer) but can also appear in patients without liver issues.
  • A study analyzed the relationship between serum PIVKA-II levels and various clinical measurements of bone and muscle health in 441 patients with liver disease.
  • Results indicated that high PIVKA-II levels were linked to serious liver disease, abnormal bone health in women, and muscle weakness in men, suggesting that monitoring PIVKA-II might help manage bone and muscle health in these patients.
