Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed 326 hemodialysis patients with COVID-19 to assess how chest CT findings could predict mortality related to the disease.
  • - Key CT findings linked to higher mortality included lung involvement greater than 2.7%, pleural effusion, nodular consolidation, and patchy infiltration, with over 21% of patients dying during hospitalization.
  • - AI-assisted CT analysis effectively quantified lung involvement and revealed that even minor lung issues could lead to increased mortality, emphasizing the importance of CT findings in this vulnerable patient population.

The current study examined whether meditation experience is associated with changes in endurance performance and inhibitory control-relevant neurocognitive functions caused by mental fatigue. Twenty-four athletes with meditation experience (AME) and twenty-five athletes without meditation experience (AWME) underwent a 30-min incongruent Stroop test in mental fatigue condition (MF) and a 30-min congruent Stroop test in control condition (CON) in a randomised-counterbalanced order. Inhibitory control-relevant neurocognitive functions were assessed using Flanker task and event-related potentials, followed by an endurance task using the Bruce treadmill protocol.

DNA Double-strand breaks (DSBs) are harmful lesions and major sources of genomic instability. Studies have suggested that DSBs induce local transcriptional silencing that consequently promotes genomic stability. Several factors have been proposed to actively participate in this process, including ATM and Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1).
