Evaluation of outcomes and radiation complications in 65 cats with nasal tumours treated with palliative hypofractionated radiotherapy.

Feline nasal tumours (NTs) are locally invasive and occasionally metastasise to distant sites. Although palliative hypofractionated radiotherapy (HRT) is used, its efficacy and long-term complications have not been adequately evaluated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of HRT in treating feline malignant NTs, including monitoring improvement in clinical signs, acute and late complications, and prognosis.

Efficacy of hypofractionated radiotherapy for nasal tumours in 38 dogs (2005-2008).

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of hypofractionated radiotherapy for canine nasal tumours, including the improvement in clinical signs, rate of complications and assessment of prognostic factors.

Methods: Medical records of 38 dogs with malignant nasal tumours were reviewed, and those treated with a weekly schedule of hypofractionated radiotherapy were included in the study. Acute and late side effects were defined as complications noted either within 1 month or after 6 months of irradiation, respectively.

Functional topography of rod and cone photoreceptors in macaque retina determined by retinal densitometry.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the topography of bleaching in rods, middle/long-wavelength (M/L) and short-wavelength (S) cones in the macaque retina by using a modified retinal densitometry technique.

Methods: A modified commercial digital fundus camera system was used to measure continuously the intensity of the light reflectance during bleaching with band pass lights in the ocular fundus of three adult Rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) under general anesthesia. The topography of bleaching in rods, M/L-, and S-cones was obtained separately by considering the characteristic time course of the reflectance changes, depending on the wavelengths of light and retinal locations.

Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome associated with brain parenchymal hemorrhage.

We described a 7-year-old girl with reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome associated with brain parenchymal hemorrhage. She initially presented with high fever and pancytopenia, leading to a diagnosis of most severe type aplastic anemia. We treated her with cyclosporine, methylprednisolone and anti-thymocyte globulin.
