Objectives: To investigate whether the inhibition of 12/15-lipoxygenase (12/15-LOX), one of the core enzymes of the arachidonic acid cascade, suppresses orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR), and examine the involvement of the hyaline degeneration of periodontal ligament cells and odontoclast differentiation.

Materials And Methods: The left maxillary first molars of 10-week-old male Wistar rats were moved mesially for 14 days using a closed-coil spring (25 cN) inserted between the first molar and incisor. The rats were intraperitoneally administered with a 12/15-LOX specific inhibitor (ML-351; 0.

To investigate the bioactivities of fresh garlic and its processed product, black garlic, we conducted comparative analyses of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, innate immune activation, and anti-cancer activities in addition to the chemical composition (sugar, amino acid, and polyphenol contents) of these materials. Simultaneous assay using neutrophil-like cells showed that fresh garlic exhibited antioxidant and innate immunostimulatory activities, whereas black garlic displayed a potent anti-inflammatory effect. The antioxidant activity index was correlated with phenol and flavonoid contents, while the innate immunostimulatory activity was correlated with fructan content.

Termite queens and kings live longer than nonreproductive workers. Several molecular mechanisms contributing to their long lifespan have been investigated; however, the underlying biochemical explanation remains unclear. Coenzyme Q (CoQ), a component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, plays an essential role in the lipophilic antioxidant defense system.

is an invasive weed that seriously threatens agricultural production and economics worldwide. In this research, dried aerial parts of were extracted, applying Soxhlet and liquid-liquid phase methods to acquire the total crude (T-Anvi), hexane (H-Anvi), ethyl acetate (E-Anvi), butanol (B-Anvi), and water (W-Anvi) extracts, respectively. In which, T-Anvi contains the highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents (24.

Previously, we showed that SAMM50, a mitochondrial outer membrane protein, is N-myristoylated, and this lipid modification is required for the proper targeting of SAMM50 to mitochondria. In this study, we characterized protein N-myristoylation occurring on four human mitochondrial proteins, SAMM50, TOMM40, MIC19, and MIC25, three of which are components of the mitochondrial intermembrane space bridging (MIB) complex, which plays a critical role in the structure and function of mitochondria. In vitro and in vivo metabolic labeling experiments revealed that all four of these proteins were N-myristoylated.
