Recent evidence indicates that human ancestors utilized a combination of quadrupedal walking, climbing, and bipedal walking. Therefore, the origin of bipedalism may be linked to underlying mechanisms supporting diverse locomotor modes. This study aimed to elucidate foundations of varied locomotor modes from the perspective of motor control by identifying muscle synergies and demonstrating similarities in synergy compositions across different locomotor modes in chimpanzees and Japanese macaques.

This study involved a 73-year-old man who underwent thalamotomy via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided, focused ultrasound surgery, in which the left thalamic ventral intermediate nucleus is targeted, as a treatment for action tremor of the right-hand fingers caused by essential tremor. Following treatment, the action tremor of the right-hand fingers mostly disappeared, but new symptoms of paresis and sensory impairment were evident in the left upper and lower limbs. Head MRI exhibited a hyperintense lesion on diffusion-weighted imaging and a decreased apparent diffusion coefficient in a region of the right thalamus following the anterior choroidal artery, medial posterior choroidal artery, and thalamogeniculate artery territory.

Background: Floodplains harbor highly biodiverse ecosystems, which have been strongly affected by both past climate change and by recent human activities, resulting in a high prevalence of many endangered species in these habitats. Understanding the history of floodplain species over a wide range of timescales can contribute to effective conservation planning. We reconstructed the population formation history of the Itasenpara bitterling Acheilognathus longipinnis, an endangered floodplain fish species in Japan, over a broad timescale based on phylogenetic analysis, demographic modeling, and historical demographic analysis using mitogenome and whole-genome sequences.

The Joint Committee for Nationwide Survey on colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) was established to improve treatment outcomes in patients with CRLM.
