Purpose: A modified application technique of intrauterine insemination (IUI) is slow release insemination (SRI), first described by Muharib et al. (Hum Reprod 7(2):227-229, 1992), who postulated higher pregnancy rates with a slow release of spermatozoa for 3 h.
Methods: To investigate this approach, two randomized controlled, cross-over pilot studies were performed from 2004 to 2006 in Israel and Germany to compare SRI with the standard bolus IUI.
The increasing use of chitosan encourages the search for fast and sensitive methods to quantify its concentrations in water solutions. Recent colorimetric studies have suggested quantification by binding chitosan to Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A (BR) dye and measuring the absorbance at 575 nm related to the complex that is formed. This study presents an improved colorimetric technique based on the complexation reaction between BR and chitosan.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis study aimed to examine the association between lactate levels in the first hours after surgery for congenital heart defects and the results of Risk-Adjusted Classification for Congenital Heart Surgery (RACHS-1) scoring and to evaluate serial lactate levels over time to determine whether they can serve as a supplementary tool for postoperative assessment within the same RACHS-1 group of patients. A retrospective cohort study was performed using data retrieved from a clinical database of 255 children who had surgery for congenital heart defects between 1999 and 2001 at Sheba Medical Center. Lactate levels were measured postoperatively four times (mg/dL units).

The code enables the user to resolve the UV-visible absorption spectrum of a mixture of up to 3 previously known components, to the individual components, thus, evaluating their quantities. The resolving procedure is based on searching the combination of the components which yields the spectrum which is the most similar (minimal RMSE) to the measured spectrum of the mixture.
