This study simultaneously measured the taxonomic diversity of bacterial communities in both seawater and PM aerosol samples collected from the Northern Pacific Ocean during a cruise covering 7724 km between 37°N 126°E and 58°N 179°E. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Firmicutes were found to be more prevalent in aerosol samples (39 ± 16 %, 5.1 ± 1.

Background: Longitudinal changes in the inner retina in patients with optic neuritis (ON) may be helpful in monitoring patients and determining maintenance treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate longitudinal changes in the inner retina after subsiding of acute demyelinating ON and to identify the factors associated with such changes.

Methods: In this multicenter retrospective observational study, we reviewed the medical records of 77 patients with ON, including 23 with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder with aquaporin 4 (AQP4)-immunoglobulin G (IgG) (AQP4 group), 23 with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-antibody-associated disease (MOG group), 18 with multiple sclerosis (MS group), and 13 with idiopathic ON (iON group).

The highly pathogenic genotype 2b (HP-G2b) of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), which caused a pandemic in 2013-2014, evolved in South Korea and became endemic, affecting the domestic pig industry. This study describes the genotypic traits of novel HP-G2b PEDV strains identified on affected farms experiencing low disease severity with < 10% neonatal mortality. Nucleotide sequencing revealed common deletion patterns, termed S-DEL2, resulting in a two-amino-acid deletion at positions 60 and 61, 61 and 62, or 63 and 64 in the N-terminal domain of the spike (S) protein of all isolates.

The Radar for Europa Assessment and Sounding: Ocean to Near-surface (REASON) is a dual-frequency ice-penetrating radar (9 and 60 MHz) onboard the Europa Clipper mission. REASON is designed to probe Europa from exosphere to subsurface ocean, contributing the third dimension to observations of this enigmatic world. The hypotheses REASON will test are that (1) the ice shell of Europa hosts liquid water, (2) the ice shell overlies an ocean and is subject to tidal flexing, and (3) the exosphere, near-surface, ice shell, and ocean participate in material exchange essential to the habitability of this moon.

Background: To compare the accuracy of nine intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas, including three traditional formulas (SRK/T, Haigis, and Hoffer Q) and six new-generation formulas (Barrett Universal II [BUII], Hill-Radial Basis Function [RBF] 3.0, Kane, Emmetropia verifying optical [EVO], Ladas Super, and Pearl-DGS) in patients who underwent cataract surgery after acute primary angle closure (APAC).

Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 44 eyes of 44 patients (APAC) and 60 eyes of 60 patients (control) were included.
