Article Synopsis
  • Intestinal Behçet disease causes severe ulcers in the intestines and can lead to significant health issues; this study investigates the effectiveness of intestinal ultrasound as a monitoring tool compared to endoscopic findings and tissue samples.* -
  • The study analyzed ultrasound parameters like bowel wall thickness and vascularity in relation to the severity of ulcers discovered through endoscopy and pathological examinations, finding significant correlations between increased measurements and active ulcer stages.* -
  • Results suggest that intestinal ultrasound is a reliable method for assessing ulcer activity in Behçet disease, with specific metrics like a bowel wall thickness over 5.5 mm being indicative of active lesions.*

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acid, is an essential nutrient that exhibits antiinflammatory, neuroprotective, and cardiovascular-protective activities. Although EPA is used as a nutrient-based pharmaceutical agent or dietary supplement, its molecular target(s) is debatable. Here, we showed that EPA and its metabolites strongly and reversibly inhibit vesicular nucleotide transporter (VNUT), a key molecule for vesicular storage and release of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in purinergic chemical transmission.

Aims: To compare enhanced pathology with serial sectioning and the transcription-reverse transcription concerted reaction (TRC) for detecting sentinel node (SN) metastasis in breast cancer cases.

Methods: In total, 115 SN samples from 32 breast cancer cases were investigated by pathological examination with 2.0-mm serial sectioning and by quantitative analysis of carcinoembryonic antigen messenger RNA with the TRC.

The aim of this study was to test the performance of a new reagent kit Tosoh TRCRapid M.TB using by transcription-reverse transcription concerted reaction(TRC) for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) by comparing both its sensitivity and specificity for detecting MTC with those of Roche COBAS AMPLICOR Mycobacterium assay using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and comparing with culture. TRC is a novel method, that is rapid and provides real-time monitoring of the isothermal sequence of RNA amplification without any post-amplification procedure, and the resulting detection time was about 30 min.

We report a case of disseminated infection due to Bipolaris spicifera in an immunocompetent male. Histopathological studies of lymph node, lung, and liver biopsy specimens showed a dark pigmented, granular fungal structure inside the granuloma. The disease was accompanied by the unusual feature of positive lupus anticoagulant in serum and low-density areas expanding along the portal vein in the liver.
