Background: S. pneumoniae (SP) serotypes 15B and 15C are frequent causative agents of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), otitis media, and nasopharyngeal colonization in the post PCV13 era. The principal difference between serotypes 15B and 15C is the presence of an O-acetyl group on the pentasaccharide repeating unit of 15B polysaccharide.

Background: In 2012, Botswana introduced 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-13) to its childhood immunization program in a 3+0 schedule, achieving coverage rates of above 90% by 2014. In other settings, PCV introduction has been followed by an increase in carriage or disease caused by non-vaccine serotypes, including some serotypes with a high prevalence of antibiotic resistance.

Methods: We characterized the serotype epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of pneumococcal isolates cultured from nasopharyngeal samples collected from infants (≤12 months) in southeastern Botswana between 2016 and 2019.

Objectives: We sought to describe the evolving epidemiology of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) among children in Massachusetts, United States, over the last 2 decades during which sequential 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV7) and 13-valent PCVs (PCV13) were implemented.

Methods: Cases of IPD in children aged <18 years were detected between 2002 and 2021 through an enhanced population-based, statewide surveillance system. Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates from normally sterile sites were serotyped and evaluated for antimicrobial susceptibility.

Objective: The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine for pregnant persons to prevent severe illness and death. The objective was to examine levels of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) IgG, IgM, and IgA against spike protein receptor binding domain (RBD) and nucleocapsid protein (NCP) in maternal and infant/cord blood at delivery after COVID 19 vaccination compared with SARS-CoV-2 infection at in mother-infant dyads at specified time points.

Study Design: Mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection ( = 31) or COVID-19 vaccination ( = 25) during pregnancy were enrolled between July 2020 and November 2021.

The objective of this study was to compare maternal and infant cytokine profiles at delivery among those vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy to unvaccinated controls. Mother-infant dyads were enrolled in this prospective cohort study, and maternal blood and infant and/or cord blood collected. Samples were analyzed utilizing a LEGENDplex 13-plex human anti-viral response cytokine panel.
