Correlation of histological diagnosis and laboratory findings in distinguishing acute appendicitis and lymphoid hyperplasia.

Purpose: Acute appendicitis (AA) is one of the most frequent causes of abdominal surgery encountered in emergency rooms. However, reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) is one of the appendicular pathologies often misdiagnosed. It is quite challenging to distinguish between AA and RLH in terms of planning treatment in an emergency.

Objective: As commonly seen symptoms, headaches are among the most frequently encountered health challenges in emergency rooms by healthcare professionals. Among one of the most commonly seen and primary headaches is migraine. Migraines are mostly accompanied by functional deficits.

Association between red blood cell distribution width and acute pancreatitis.

Background: We aimed to determine whether there are any alterations in red blood cell width in patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

Material/methods: This was a retrospective study of records of patients treated in emergency units and diagnosed with acute pancreatitis between January 2011 and April 2013. Records were investigated regarding patient age, sex, and causes of acute pancreatitis.

Endotracheal tuberculosis with obstruction.

Endotracheal involvement of tuberculosis (TB), a type of endobronchial TB, is defined as granulomatous infection of the tracheobronchial tree. We present the case of a 33 year-old female agriculture engineer with endotracheal tuberculosis (ETTB). It was treated successfully with prompt long-course antituberculous medication without complications or need for endotracheal intervention.
