Reconstruction of primary vertices at the ATLAS experiment in Run 1 proton-proton collisions at the LHC.

This paper presents the method and performance of primary vertex reconstruction in proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment during Run 1 of the LHC. The studies presented focus on data taken during 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of [Formula: see text] TeV. The performance has been measured as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing over a wide range, from one to seventy.

Enantioselective resolution of racemic flurbiprofen methyl ester by lipase encapsulated mercapto calix[4]arenes capped FeO nanoparticles.

This work presents the synthesis of new mercapto calix[4]arenes derivatives (4 and 5). These derivatives were capped on FeO magnetic nanoparticles and subsequently encapsulated with Candida rugosa through sol-gel method to furnish enc-4 and enc-5, respectively, to enhance catalytic activity and enantioselectivity of lipase for hydrolysis reaction of racemic flurbiprofen methyl ester. Catalytic activity and enantioselectivity of enc-4 and enc-5 were assayed at different pH and temperature conditions and it was found that the resultant encapsulated enzyme exhibited higher thermal and operational stabilities compared to the free lipase in which enc-5 showed the excellent rate of enantioselectivity (E = 176) for S-flurbiprofen better than free lipase (E = 137) at pH 7 and 35 °C for 48 h.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Grief Support Program on the bereavement of parents whose babies had died. The sample consisted of 77 couples. The data was collected by the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief and the Coping Strategies Inventory.

Construction of ferrocene modified conducting polymer based amperometric urea biosensor.

An unusual cause of epidemic thyrotoxicosis.

We describe the case of four patients consulting for headache and tachycardia of brutal onset. Their biological data were compatible with primary hyperthyroidism with low TSH and high T4 serum levels. Serum thyroglobulin level was low and Tc-scintigraphy showed decreased uptake with a homogenous pattern.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), characterized by recurrent partial or complete pharyngeal closure, resulting in apnea or hypopnea, is closely associated with cardiovascular disorders (CVDs). Purpose: Osteopenia and osteoporosis are the two most common musculoskeletal disorders in the elderly population. We determined whether osteopenic and osteoporotic patients with fractures exhibit differences in trabecular morphology and biomechanical properties of bone.

Methods: Fourteen osteopenic patients and 28 osteoporotic patients with hip fractures who underwent hemiarthroplasty for proximal femoral fractures caused by low-energy injury were included.

The rejection of forward jets originating from additional proton-proton interactions (pile-up) is crucial for a variety of physics analyses at the LHC, including Standard Model measurements and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. The identification of such jets is challenging due to the lack of track and vertex information in the pseudorapidity range . This paper presents a novel strategy for forward pile-up jet tagging that exploits jet shapes and topological jet correlations in pile-up interactions.

Minimal change disease associated with malignant pleural mesothelioma: case report and review of the literature.

A 77-year-old man with a history of asbestos exposure was admitted to our internal medicine division for generalised weakness, fatigue, loss of weight, night sweats and difficulty for breathing since 3 months. Clinical examination revealed left fine crackles and bilateral leg oedema.
