The fallopian tube has received attention as an origin of high-grade pelvic malignancies. This is a case of bilateral fallopian tube cancer discovered after an abnormal Pap test. A 62-year-old woman with a history of one term delivery had atypical glandular cells on a Pap test.

Background: Port-site metastasis is a known complication of laparoscopic surgery, although it has been described less in robotic surgery. There are limited reports of such occurrences in current literature.

Cases: Two patients underwent robotic-assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and lymph node dissection for stage IA endometrial cancer.

Objective: To assess the pre-operative clinical factors of a group of early stage cervical cancer patients and correlate them to the risk for adjuvant radiotherapy using GOG 92 and 109 criteria.

Method: A retrospective chart review of cervical cancer patients treated at the Saint Louis University Division of Gynecologic Oncology between the years 1989 and 2004 was performed. The results were compared with chi-squared testing and multivariable regression analysis.

Metallopanstimulin (MPS-1)/S27 ribosomal protein is involved in cellular proliferation and oncogenesis. In this study, we have examined the expression of the MPS-1 protein in 120 stages I and II breast carcinomas to study its relationship with breast cancer prognosis. We also determined if there was any relationship of MPS-1 with other biological markers commonly used in breast cancer prognosis.

Multiple chromosome 17 loci may be involved in ovarian carcinogenesis. Fifty-seven sporadic ovarian epithelial tumors were examined for loss of heterozygosity at 15 loci on chromosomes 17p. Eighty % (39 of 49) of informative tumors had allelic loss in 17p13.

We have identified by cDNA cloning a gene, denoted MPS-1, that is activated in cultured human transformed cells by growth factors. The MPS-1 gene contains one zinc finger domain similar to those present in the C4 family of DNA binding proteins. In this study, the expression of MPS-1 mRNA and protein were examined in HPV-induced human condylomata acuminata.

In order to identify a common region of deletion on chromosome 17 potentially containing a tumor-suppressor gene, 27 ovarian carcinomas and 3 ovarian tumors of low malignant potential (LMP) were examined for loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at 6 p arm and 10 q arm loci. Ninety percent of all tumors had deletions at one or more loci. On the p arm, there was a single near-common region of deletion on 17p13.

Growth factors are polypeptides involved in the regulation of normal and malignant cell growth. Transforming growth factor alpha (TGF alpha) is one of such protein growth factors that plays an important role in the regulation of mammalian cell growth. In this study, the expression of TGF alpha mRNA was studied in tissue specimens obtained at the time of surgery from patients with benign and malignant gynecologic proliferative conditions.

One hundred consecutive evaluable patients with advanced carcinoma of the cervix or vagina were treated with doxorubicin (Adriamycin) alone or in combination. The use of Adriamycin in conjunction with cyclophosphamide and 5-fluorouracil resulted in the highest response rate with all responders continuing to respond.

Thirty-three women with carcinoma of the clitoris underwent surgical therapy, and 12% subsequently developed pelvic recurrence. However, none of the 18 patients without initial evidence of inguinal node metastases developed a pelvic recurrence. Of the 15 women with initial evidence of inguinal node metastases, 26.

Because of the recent reports indicating the high incidence of unsuspected diaphragmatic metastases in presumed localized ovarian cancer, we have carried out peritoneoscopy on 14 consecutive patients referred with the diagnosis of Stage I or II ovarian cancer. Of the 14 women none was demonstrated to have diaphragmatic metastases, but 35 per cent were found to have cytologic washings demonstrating malignant cells. The significance of these findings is discussed.
