Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) is a leading cause of infant mortality and neurological disabilities in children. Recent evidence indicates that gut microbiota significantly contributes to the development of inflammation and cognitive impairments following brain injury. However, the mechanisms by which gut microbiota influence inflammation and cognitive function in the neonates after HIBD are not well understood.

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) is considered as a major cause of long-term cognitive impairments in newborns. It has been demonstrated that gut microbiota is closely associated with the prognosis of various neurological disorders. However, the role of microbiota-gut-brain axis on cognitive function following neonatal HIBD remains elusive.

The terahertz (THz) metamaterial sensor design is typically complex and requires substantial expertise in physics. To simplify this process, we propose a novel reverse design model based on an improved conditional generative adversarial network that integrates self-attention generative adversarial network and Wasserstein generative adversarial network (WGAN) networks, and is referred to as the self-attention conditional Wasserstein GAN (SACW-GAN) model. By using the target response of the sensor as the input to the generator network, and incorporating labeling information, an attention mechanism, and the Wasserstein distance, we achieve effective reverse design of THz metamaterial sensors.

Background: Bone defects, resulting from substantial bone loss that exceeds the natural self-healing capacity, pose significant challenges to current therapeutic approaches due to various limitations. In the quest for alternative therapeutic strategies, bone tissue engineering has emerged as a promising avenue. Notably, excretory proteins from Toxoplasma gondii (TgEP), recognized for their immunogenicity and broad spectrum of biological activities secreted or excreted during the parasite's lifecycle, have been identified as potential facilitators of osteogenic differentiation in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs).

Seepage of uranium tailings has become a focus of attention in the uranium mining and metallurgy industry, and in-situ microbial remediation is considered an effective way to treat uranium pollution. However, this method has the drawbacks of easy biomass loss and unstable remediation effect. To overcome these issues, spare red soil around the uranium mine was used to enhance the efficiency and stability of bioremediation.

The severe Zn-dendrite growth and insufficient carbon-based cathode performance are two critical issues that hinder the practical applications of flexible Zn-ion micro-ssupercapacitors (FZCs). Herein, a self-adaptive electrode design concept of the synchronous improvement on both the cathode and anode is proposed to enhance the overall performance of FZCs. Polypyrrole doped with anti-expansion graphene oxide and acrylamide (PPy/GO-AM) on the cathode side can exhibit remarkable electrochemical performance, including decent capacitance and cycling stability, as well as exceptional mechanical properties.

Cavity-enhanced direct frequency comb spectroscopy (CE-DFCS) is widely used as a highly sensitive gas sensing technology in various gas detection fields. For the on-axis coupling incidence scheme, the detection accuracy and stability are seriously affected by the cavity-mode noise, and therefore, stable operation inevitably requires external electronic mode-locking and sweeping devices, substantially increasing system complexity. To address this issue, we propose off-axis cavity-enhanced optical frequency comb spectroscopy from both theoretical and experimental aspects, which is applied to the detection of single- and dual-gas of carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO) in the near-infrared.

Following hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD), there is a decline in cognitive function; however, there are no effective treatment strategies for this condition in neonates. This study aimed to evaluate the role of the cluster of differentiation 200 (CD200)/CD200R1 axis in cognitive function following HIBD using an established model of HIBD in postnatal day 7 rats. Western blotting analysis was conducted to evaluate the protein expression levels of CD200, CD200R1, proteins associated with the PI3K/Akt-NF-κB pathway, and inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in the hippocampus.

Background: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a neurological complication occurring after anesthesia and surgery. Neuroinflammation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of POCD, and the activation of the cluster of differentiation 200 (CD200)/CD200R1 axis improves neurological recovery in various neurological disorders by modulating inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact and underlying mechanism of CD200/CD200R1 axis on POCD in aged mice.

The structure of the grain-and-oil-food-supply chain has the characteristics of complexity, cross-regionality, a long cycle, and numerous participants, making it difficult to maintain the safety of supply. In recent years, some phenomena have emerged in the field of grain procurement and sale, such as topping the new with the old, rotating grains, the pressure of grades and prices, and counterfeit oil food, which have seriously threatened grain-and-oil-food security. Blockchain technology has the advantage of decentralization and non-tampering Therefore, this study analyzes the characteristics of traceability data in the grain-and-oil-food-supply chain, and presents a blockchain-based traceability model for the grain-and-oil-food-supply chain.

BaSrCoFeO (BSCF) perovskite has been recognized as a promising oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst due to its superior intrinsic catalytic activity. However, BSCF suffers from serious degradation during the OER process due to its surface amorphization caused by the segregation of A-site ions (Ba and Sr). Herein, we construct a novel BSCF composite catalyst (BSCF-GDC-NR) by anchoring the gadolinium-doped ceria oxide (GDC) nanoparticles on the surface of a BSCF nanorod by a concentration-difference electrospinning method.

Utilizing ionic liquids (ILs) with low flammability as the precursor component for a gel polymer electrolyte is a smart strategy out of safety concerns. Solvate ionic liquids (SILs) consist of equimolar lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and tetraglyme, alleviating the main problems of high viscosity and low Li conductivity of conventional ILs. In this study, within a very short time of 30 s, a SIL turns immobile using efficient and controllable UV-curing with an ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate (ETPTA) network, forming a homogeneous SIL-based gel polymer electrolyte (SGPE) with enhanced thermal stability (216 °C), robust mechanical strength (compression modulus: 1.

The present study was performed to explore the role of galanin and galanin receptor 1 (GalR 1) in nociceptive modulation in the central nucleus of amygdala (CeA) in normal rats and rats with neuropathy, and the involvement of GalR 1 and PKC was also investigated. The hindpaw withdrawal latencies (HWLs) to thermal and mechanical stimulations were increased in a dose-dependent manner after intra-CeA injection of galanin in both normal rats and rats with neuropathy. The increased HWLs were significantly attenuated by intra-CeA injection of galanin receptor antagonist M40, indicating an involvement of galanin receptor in nociceptive modulation in CeA.
