Article Synopsis
  • Researchers engineered Halomonas bluephagenesis, a microorganism that naturally produces poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), to also produce ethylene glycol and glycolate from xylose.
  • They achieved xylose utilization by enhancing either the xylonate or ribulose-1-phosphate pathways, and identified key genes that improved ethylene glycol accumulation to 0.91 g/L and PHB to 1.48 g/L.
  • Disrupting the native glycolate oxidase was crucial for producing glycolate, leading to a yield of 0.80 g/L glycolate and 1.14 g/L PHB, showcasing the potential of H. bluephagenesis for producing various useful

Accurate measurement of the pretightening stress for bolts has great significance for improving the assembly quality and safety, especially in severe environments. In this study, AlN thin film transducers were deposited on GH4169 nickel base alloy bolts using the RF magnetron sputtering, enabling a systematic investigation into the correlation between structures and the intensity of ultrasonic echo signals. Employing the finite element method resulted in consistency with the experimental data, enabling further exploration of the enhancement mechanism.

A high-frequency, piezoelectric thin-film sensor was successfully deposited on a nickel-based superalloy bolt by radio frequency magnetron sputtering to develop a smart, nickel-based superalloy bolt. Ultrasonic response characterization, high accuracy, and repeatability of ultrasonic measurement of axial preload in nickel-based superalloy smart bolts are reported here and were fully demonstrated. The axial preload in the nickel-based superalloy smart bolt was directly measured by the bi-wave method (TOF ratio between transverse and longitudinal-mode waves) without using the traditional integration of a longitudinal and shear transducer.

Liver fibrosis is characterized by the abnormal deposition of the extracellular matrix with a severe inflammatory response and/or metabolic disorder. Asiatic acid (AA), a natural compound derived from Centella asiatica, exhibited potent anti-fibrosis effects. This investigation first confirmed the anti-fibrosis effects of AA in TGF-β-LX-2 cells and CCl-induced liver fibrosis mice, and then sought to elucidate a novel mechanism of action by integrating network pharmacology and lipidomics.

Introduction: Urinary stones cause hydronephrosis, which leads to kidney function impairment. The serum creatinine level is frequently used as a marker of kidney function. However, in some patients with hydronephrosis, it does not reflect the kidney function changes in the early stages of kidney stone disease.

Introduction: To assess early changes in serum histone H3 concentration in patients with urosepsis and its predictive ability for the onset of urosepsis.

Methods: A total of 80 patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotripsy were enrolled in the study and divided into control and urosepsis groups based on their postoperative outcomes. Serum histone H3 concentrations were detected using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, blood indexes were tested by automatic blood analyzers, and vital signs data were obtained by monitors and manual measurements.

Molecular oxygen activated by visible light to generate radicals with high oxidation ability exhibits great potential in environmental remediation The efficacy of molecular oxygen activation mainly depends on the separation and migration efficiency of the photoinduced charge carriers. In this work, 2D/2D CdInS/g-CN heterojunctions with different weight ratios were successfully fabricated by a simple electrostatic self-assembled route. The optimized sample with a weight ratio of 5:2 between CdInS and g-CN showed the highest photocatalytic activity for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) degradation, which also displayed good photostability.

Solar cells based on perovskite absorbers are rapidly emerging as attractive candidates for photovoltaics development. Understanding the role of the electron-transport layer (ETL) is very important to obtain highly efficient perovskite solar cells. Herein, the effect of the ETL on device performance in planar perovskite solar cells is investigated in detail, and the band bending in different situations is discussed.

Organic-inorganic halide perovskite-based thin film solar cells show excellent light-to-power conversion efficiency. The high performance for the devices requires the preparation of well-crystallized perovskite absorbers. In this paper, we used the postannealing process to treat the perovskite films under different solvent vapors and observed that the solvent vapors have a strong effect on the film growth.

Of the two cultivated species of allopolyploid cotton, Gossypium barbadense produces extra-long fibers for the production of superior textiles. We sequenced its genome (AD)2 and performed a comparative analysis. We identified three bursts of retrotransposons from 20 million years ago (Mya) and a genome-wide uneven pseudogenization peak at 11-20 Mya, which likely contributed to genomic divergences.

The effects of device performance of 1.7 MeV electron irradiation on cadmium telluride polycrystalline thin film solar cells with the structure of anti-radiation glass/ITO/ZnO/CdS/CdTe/ZnTe/ZnTe : Cu/Ni have been studied. Light and dark I-V characteristics, dark C-V characteristics, quantum efficiency (QE), admittance spectrum (AS) and other testing methods were used to analyze cells performance such as the open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current (Isc), fill factor (FF) and conversion efficiency (eta).
