Background: Venous thrombosis is common in nephrotic syndrome, but portal vein thrombosis has a relatively low incidence in patients with nephrotic syndrome. We describe here a case of an 18-year old male student with newly diagnosed nephrotic syndrome that was complicated with portal, splenic and superior mesenteric vein thrombosis.

Conclusion: In the presence of newly diagnosed nephrotic syndrome of minimal change disease, thrombus formation can occur and should be noted, particularly when it occurs, in rare sites.
