Optical imaging with photo-controllable probes has greatly advanced biological research. With superb chemical specificity of vibrational spectroscopy, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy is particularly promising for super-multiplexed optical imaging with rich chemical information. Functional SRS imaging in response to light has been recently demonstrated, but multiplexed SRS imaging with reversible photocontrol remains unaccomplished.

Background: Gramine, also named 3-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl) indole, is a indole alkaloid. It is mainly extracted from various natural raw plants. Despite being the simplest 3-aminomethylindole, Gramine has broad pharmaceutical and therapeutic effects, such as vasodilatation, antioxidation, mitochondrial bioenergetics-related effects, and angiogenesis via modulation of TGFβ signaling.

Polysiloxanes have attracted considerable attention in biomedical engineering, owing to their inherent properties, including good flexibility and biocompatibility. However, their low mechanical strength limits their application scope. In this study, we synthesized a polysiloxane-based polyurethane by chemical copolymerization.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is often closely linked to autophagy, hypoxia signaling, mitochondrial biogenesis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) responses. Understanding the interaction between ER stress, mitochondrial function and autophagy is of great importance to provide new mechanisms for the pathology, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Our previous study has reported that Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) protection against thapsigargin (TG)-induced ER stress response and associated cell apoptosis in cardiac myocytes is calcium dependent and mediated by ER Ca release through RyR.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress has been demonstrated to play important roles in the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular diseases. The ER stress pathway is therefore a promising therapeutic target in cardiovascular disease. Although saponins (PNS) are one of the patent medicines that are traditionally used to treat cardiovascular disorders, their effects on ER stress in cardiac myocytes remain unexploited so far.
