Article Synopsis
  • Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a severe vascular disease with no cure, leading to a need for new treatment options.
  • A new drug called DYZY01, which contains high-purity cannabidiol (a non-psychoactive compound), shows promise in decreasing inflammation and pyroptosis in experimental models of PH.
  • In studies on rats, DYZY01 significantly lowered mean pulmonary arterial pressure and improved vascular structure by targeting the NF-κB/NLRP3/Caspase-1 pathway, indicating its potential as a treatment for PH.

Backgrounds And Aims: Unexplained iron deficiency is associated with poorer survival in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling and BMP protein type II receptor (BMPR2) expression are important in the pathogenesis of PH. BMP6 in hepatocytes is a central transcriptional regulator of the iron hormone hepcidin that controls systemic iron balance.
