After renal transplant, immunosuppression therapy is used to reduce the risk of rejection. Here, we describe the case of an adult living related donor renal transplant recipient with rare natural chimerism, as discovered by short tandem repeat sequence analysis. In our process of matching transplant patients, we perform human leukocyte antigen testing and short tandem repeat chimerism testing to decide postoperative immunosuppression strategy for transplant patients.

Background And Objectives: Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is one of the most serious complications after hepatectomy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and has an association with high morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to explore the risk factors of PHLF and to establish and validate a nomogram to predict PHLF.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 971 HCC patients undergoing major liver resection at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital between 2011 and 2016, and established a nomogram based on multivariate analyses for predicting PHLF.

In mammalian growing follicles, oocytes are arrested at the diplotene stage (which resembles the G2/M boundary in mitosis), while the granulosa cells (GCs) continue to proliferate during follicular development, reflecting a cell cycle asynchrony between oocytes and GCs. Hypoxanthine (Hx), a purine present in the follicular fluid, has been shown to induce oocytes meiotic arrest, although its role in GC proliferation remains ill-defined. Here, we demonstrate that Hx indiscriminately prevents G2-to-M phase transition in porcine GCs.

We investigated the value of autoantibodies as biomarkers of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) by analyzing the autoantibody profiles of 65 patients (34 cGVHD and 31 non-cGVHD) surviving longer than three months after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Autoantibodies to at least one antigen were detected in 45 patients (70.8%), with multiple autoantibodies detected in 30 patients (46.

As the follicle develops, the thickening of the granulosa compartment leads to progressively deficient supply of oxygen in granulosa cells (GCs) due to the growing distances from the follicular vessels. These conditions are believed to cause hypoxia in GCs during folliculogenesis. Upon hypoxic conditions, several types of mammalian cells have been reported to undergo cell cycle arrest.

The overuse of glucocorticoid may cause the metabolic disorders affecting the long term outcome of liver transplantation. This study aims to investigate the immune adjustment strategy by decreasing use of glucocorticoid after liver transplantation. The follow-up study was carried out on liver function and lipid metabolism.

Background: Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is associated with high mortality. Early diagnosis is essential to start treatment and to improve outcomes. Because of the inflammatory nature, we hypothesis that cytokine profile of patients with GVHD may serve as diagnostic markers.

Organ decellularization is emerging as a promising regenerative medicine approach as it is able to provide an acellular, three-dimensional biological scaffold material that can be seeded with living cells for organ reengineering. However this application is currently limited to donor-derived decellularized organs for reengineering in vitro and no study has been conducted for re-engineering the decellularized organ in vivo. We developed a novel technique of a single liver lobe decellularization in vivo in live animals.

Background: Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after liver and kidney transplantation has high mortality and causes diagnostic challenges. This study aims to describe the cytokine and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) profile in the GVHD after liver and kidney transplantation.

Methods: A high-throughput detection kit was applied and altogether 18 different cytokines were tested simultaneously.

The improvement in graft survival over the past decade has been mainly due to calcineurin inhibitors, which interfere with the calcium-mediated pathway. Recently, other pathways such as those mediated by protein kinase C (PKC) are coming into view. The purpose of this study was to assess the immunosuppressive properties of chelerythrine, a specific PKC inhibitor, in preventing acute rejection in murine heterotopic heart transplantation.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of solanine on promoting human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the molecular mechanisms leading to tumor cell apoptosis. Solanine was administered to HepG2 cells . A selection of probes targeting various cellular localizations of ROS were used to detect ROS expression using flow cytometry.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in China. It is important to understand the genetic mechanisms underlying the development and progression of HBV-related HCC and to identify new biomarkers for clinical treatment. The important role of fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) has been widely recognized in many types of cancers, but the association between FGFR polymorphisms and HCC carcinogenesis has been rarely reported.

Objective: To study the correlation between high-resolution HLA-A * 1101, HLA-A * 0201, HLA-A * 2402, HLA-B * 4001, HLA-DRB1 * 0901 with HCMV pp65 antigenemia after bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in China.

Methods: 48 recipients doing BMT during 2009. 2-2010.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) reactivation is a common complication after liver transplantation (LT). Here, we investigated whether human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-matching was related to HCMV infection and subsequent graft failure after LT for hepatitis B virus  cirrhosis. This retrospective study reviewed 91 LT recipients.

Background: Human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) is a non-classical major histocompatibility complex class I molecule that has multiple immune regulatory functions including the induction of immune tolerance. The detection of HLA-G expression might serve as a clinical marker in the prediction of clinical outcomes for certain types of carcinoma. Currently, we investigated whether or not HLA-G is also expressed in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and whether the expression has clinical value.

Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is an effective therapy for end-stage hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Recurrence of HBV is one of the frequent complications. In the present study, we investigated whether human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching influences the incidence of HBV recurrence, and the time point of HBV recurrence after LT.

Background: The exact roles of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility, HLA antibodies and underlying diseases in acute rejection of liver transplants are not clear. Moreover, cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, one of the most common infections after transplantation, is related to HLA genotype and the incidence of acute rejection.

Methods: Since there are controversial reports, we analyzed the impact of HLA matching, HLA antibodies and underlying diseases in 38 liver transplant recipients in China, and assessed the association of CMV infection and HLA compatibility.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the important cause affecting the survival rate and function of the transplanted organ after transplantation. The occurrence of CMV infection after liver transplantation (LT) is associated with many factors. Lots of studies suggest that genetic mutation between hosts and CMV may play a role in the occurrence and development of CMV infection.

Objective: To document the clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of graft-versus-host disease(GVHD) after liver transplantation.

Methods: Clinical course was followed up and laboratory examinations were done in 3 patients with orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) who developed acute GVHE. The diagnosis depended on clinical manifestations, skin biopsy, HLA typing and PCR short tandem repeat (PCR-STR).
