Objective: To investigate the incidence, primary causes, and risk factors for unplanned readmissions within one year after the first primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from patients who had undergone the first primary THA for ONFH at two tertiary hospitals between January 2021 and December 2022, with complete 1-year follow-up assessments. Patients who experienced an unplanned readmission within 1 year were classified as the readmission group, while the others as the non-readmission group.

Identification of disulfide-peptide-bond-containing glutathione (GSSG) over the monosulfide form (GSH) remains a very challenging task because of their identical chemical properties. Although GSH detection has been well documented, selective detection of GSSG has rarely been reported. Here, four cationic Ag-based coordination polymers (Ag CPs) were synthesized using newly synthesized monotriazole linker 3-amino-5-(4-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)pyridine to selectively screen GSSG over GSH.

The emergence of anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) poses significant impacts on the bioactivity and toxicity of biotherapeutics including proteins and peptides. Developing reliable assays to monitor the magnitudes of ADAs in blood samples is therefore considered a crucial task in animal and human studies throughout the development of biotherapeutics. Peptides represent a significant and fast-growing category of biotherapeutics for the management of a variety of indications.

Broadband spectral tuning of long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) femtosecond lasers without rotating nonlinear crystals has special usefulness in applications of nonlinear integrated photonics and microscopic ultrafast dynamics studies with stringent requirements on beam pointing. Here, we demonstrate, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, a temperature-tuning LWIR femtosecond optical parametric amplifier (OPA), based on a BaGaSe (BGSe) crystal. Broadband spectral tunability from 8.

Difference frequency generation (DFG) based tunable single-frequency mid-infrared (MIR) light sources are desirable for high-resolution spectroscopy, sensing, and imaging. In this work, we demonstrate a continuous-wave (CW) single-frequency DFG in a ZnGeP (ZGP) crystal driven by all-fiber near-infrared (NIR) fiber lasers, for the first time to our knowledge. The all-fiber NIR laser sources consist of a 1.

Introduction: Ferroptosis-driven tumor ablation strategies based on nanotechnology could be achieved by elevating intracellular iron levels or inhibiting glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) activity. However, the intracellular antioxidative defense mechanisms endow tumor cells with ferroptosis resistance capacity. The purpose of this study was to develop a synergistic therapeutic platform to enhance the efficacy of ferroptosis-based tumor therapy.

Soil biogenic components are subject to continuous sequestration, and export from soils into the surrounding air and water environments. However, the processes involving the stability or lability of their mineral states remain still unclear. To assess these issues, we have measured various biogenic components in a number of agricultural, forest, grassland, and deep soils, as well as desert sands from Inner Mongolia, both in the solid state and liquid extracts.

Article Synopsis
  • Soil is the largest carbon reservoir on land and is vital for managing the global carbon cycle and climate change.
  • This study analyzed data from 304 sites globally, finding that nitrogen (N) addition significantly increases soil organic carbon (SOC) overall, particularly in croplands and forests compared to grasslands.
  • N addition promotes the accumulation of plant-derived carbon over microbial carbon and enhances labile (easily decomposed) carbon more than recalcitrant (stable) carbon, indicating that N enrichment could decrease the stability of soil carbon pools.

Background: The respiratory microbiota plays a crucial role in the development of tuberculosis (TB). While existing research has underscored imbalances in the respiratory microbiota of adult patients with TB, information regarding the lower respiratory tract (LRT) microbiota in pediatric patients with TB remains scarce.

Methods: We employed 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology to investigate the LRT microbial communities of 85 children of different ages with active TB of different severities, 33 children with infectious diseases other than TB, and 48 sex- and age-matched healthy children.

Chemical investigation of the acid hydrolysate of Cynanchum bungei roots led to the isolation of eleven undescribed steroids, namely cynbungenins A-K (1-11), and seven previously described analogues (12-18). The complete structures of these compounds were elucidated using the comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and reference data. Structurally, compounds 1 and 2 represent the first example of androstane-type steroids found in the Cynanchum plants, and compounds 3-6 and 12 are characterized as pregnane-type steroids with a rare 8,14-seco-steroid core.

  • The study explored the effects of different Pd layer thicknesses (Pd100 and Pd120) on the growth of Cu-Ag intermetallic compounds during a high-temperature storage test (HTST).
  • Results indicated that a thinner Pd layer (Pd100) led to more severe Kirkendall effects, resulting in larger voids, cracks, and uneven intermetallic compound thickness at the bonding interface.
  • In contrast, a thicker Pd layer (Pd120) minimized the Kirkendall effect, yielding smaller voids and uniform, thinner intermetallic compounds, thus enhancing bond integrity and reducing the risk of peeling.

Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) is increasingly recognized as a reservoir for a range of antibiotic resistance genes and a pathogen that frequently causes severe infections in both hospital and community settings. In this study, we have identified a novel mechanism of conjugative transfer of a non-conjugative virulence plasmid through the formation of a fusion plasmid between the virulence plasmid and a novel 59,162 bp IncN- plasmid. This plasmid was found to be a multidrug-resistance (MDR) plasmid and carried a T4SS cluster, which greatly facilitated the efficient horizontal transfer of the fusion plasmid between Kp strains.

  • * The study investigated how different heat treatment processes affect the texture, hydrogen content, residual stress, and corrosion resistance of chromium coatings on steel.
  • * It was found that heating to 380 °C for 4 hours significantly improved coating qualities, reducing hydrogen content and residual stress while increasing corrosion resistance and microhardness, allowing for a method to assess coating quality by examining macrotexture.

In this paper, three Pd-coated Cu (PCC) wires with different Pd-layer thicknesses were used to make bonding samples, and the influence of Pd-layer thickness on the reliability of bonded points before and after a high-temperature storage test was studied. The results show that smaller bonding pressure and ultrasonic power lead to insufficient plastic deformation of the ball-bonded point, which also leads to small contact area with the pad and low bonding strength. Excessive bonding pressure and ultrasonic power will lead to 'scratch' on the surface of the pad and large-scale Ag spatter.

Unlabelled: Yuanbaoshancha (YBSC) is characterized as a new wild tea relative morphologically and phytochemically distinguished from the closest wild tea plants Rongjiangcha (, RJC) and Tulecha (, TLC). YBSC young leaves contain higher tea polyphenol and theobromine contents but lower caffeine and theanine as compared with RJC, TLC, and other tea landraces and modern cultivars. The major alkaloid detected in YBSC, TLC, and RJC is theobromine while caffeine is a minor; the primary catechins in YBSC leaves are non-galloylated catechins, significantly different from and other low-caffeine tea resources.

  • Atmospheric precipitation samples were collected in Beijing across 2018, 2019, and 2021 to analyze metal element and water-soluble ion concentrations, wet deposition fluxes, and their ecological impacts.
  • Results indicated that most precipitation was neutral or alkaline, with acid rain being rare (only 3.06% occurrence).
  • Seasonal and interannual concentrations of metal elements and ions varied, with 2019 showing the highest levels, and the main acid-causing ions identified were NO and SO, while NH and Ca served as neutralizers.
