Heat shock cognate protein 70 (Hsc70) is a key mediator for the maintenance of intracellular proteins and regulates cellular activities. And it is elevated in various tumor tissues including glioma, which is closely related to the malignancy and poor prognosis of the tumors. However, the effects of Hsc70 on gliomas and its regulatory mechanism have not yet been elucidated.

In the present study, the molecular mechanisms involved in the α-tomatine-induced apoptosis in human glioblastoma cell lines A172 and U-118 MG were investigated. Wright staining and ApopTag assays were conducted to confirm the apoptosis induced by α-tomatine treatment. Fura-2 assay determined an enhancement in free Ca intracellularly, indicating the occurrence of Ca-dependent apoptosis induction.

In this study, a novel on-line pre-column electrochemical instrument (PECI) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed, and a novel method based on PEC-HPLC-UV for amplifying the ultraviolet (UV) response of iodate (IO₃⁻) was studied. Iodate undergoes reduction in the PECI, and the resulting I(-) was injected to an HPLC system and detected by a UV detector. For IO₃⁻ analysis, conditions that can influence the reduction efficiency, including applied potential, pH value and salt concentration, were investigated in detail.

Skin-derived precursors (SKPs), a novel stem cell population isolated from mammalian skin, can differentiate into neural and mesodermal lineages. Cell therapy using SKPs seems like a promising approach for the treatment of neural diseases, however, the low efficiency of neuronal differentiation limited their clinical application. In the present study, we transfected neurogenin 2 (Ngn2), a member of the bHLH transcription factor family, into SKPs by lentivirus.
