Article Synopsis
  • Research highlights liver injury in pneumonia patients, specifically noting the lack of previous studies on its effects in those with psittacosis.
  • A retrospective analysis of 46 pneumonia patients revealed that 84.8% had abnormal liver function, with 50% experiencing actual liver injury.
  • Key risk factors identified include a history of alcohol use and elevated LDH levels (≥ 473 IU/L), suggesting these patients require closer monitoring for potential liver complications.

PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors play an important role in the first-line and second-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), indicating a new treatment strategy of NSCLC. Completed clinical trials have shown that effective detection of PD-L1 expression is the key to the use of immunosuppressive agents. However, the gold standard for PD-L1 detection has still lacked.

Increased production of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) from placenta is one of the major contributors to the development of preeclampsia. Our previous study has shown that hydrogen sulfide (HS) inhibits sFlt-1 release in placenta. In the present study, we sought to investigate whether endogenous HS affects sFlt-1 production and elucidate which HS-producing enzyme is responsible for its effect in placenta.

Unlabelled: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been implicated to angiogenesis in various tissues. We sought to investigate the role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in regulating production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) proteins, the key factors of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis, in placenta.

Methods: Placental tissues were obtained from pregnant women with preeclampsia and healthy pregnant women who underwent elective cesarean section.

An H9N2 virus lethal to chickens was isolated from an acutely ill chicken flock in 2012. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that this virus was phylogenetically related to the Y280 lineage. Sequence analysis showed 1 amino acid deletion in HA1 and 3 amino acid deletions in the NA stalk region.

A simple and steerable method was adopted to synthesize well-distributed rutile TiO2 nanobundles on reduced graphene oxides through two-step hydrothermal methods. The rutile TiO2-RGO composites were used as the anode materials in lithium ion batteries for investigation, which had an original morphology and a reversible capacity of 300 mA h g(-1) at 0.6 C and 200 mA h g(-1) at 1.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed data from over 169,000 pregnant women in Guangdong province to investigate the prevalence of peripartum thromboembolic disease, finding that 201 cases were reported, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT).
  • - Major risk factors varied by region: In the Pearl River Delta area, factors included previous thrombosis history, pregnancy complications, and excessive weight gain, while other regions highlighted factors like preeclampsia and cesarean sections.
  • - Different regions showed distinct epidemiological characteristics, emphasizing the need for targeted prevention strategies for thromboembolic disease based on specific risk factors in pregnant women.
