Generalized fractional anisotropy (GFA) can eliminate the crossing fiber effect, which may be more reflective of brain tissue changes in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). This study aimed to explore the alterations of structural networks based on GFA and its relationship with cognitive performance in CSVD patients. We recruited 50 CSVD patients which were divided into two groups: cognitive impairment (CSVD-CI) and normal cognition (CSVD-NC), and 22 healthy controls (HCs).

Brain damage caused by small vessel disease (SVD) differs between males and females. We aimed to examine the pure sex-specific neuroanatomical mechanisms of SVD adjusted for voxel-based expected effects of age and sex on healthy brain volume. Thirty-one female and 32 male genetic SVD (cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy, CADASIL) patients and 55 sex- and age-matched healthy controls (HCs) underwent 7-Tesla MRI examinations.
