The mass transfer behavior in a hollow fiber membrane module of membrane-based artificial organs (such as artificial liver or artificial kidney) were studied by numerical simulation. A new computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method coupled with K-K equation and the tortuous capillary pore diffusion model (TCPDM) was proposed for the simulations. The urea clearance rate predicted by the use of the numerical model agrees well with the experimental data, which verifies the validity of our numerical model.

Seasonal breeding is a universal reproductive strategy in many animals. Hypothalamic genes, especially type 2 and 3 iodothyronine deiodinases (Dio2/3), RFamide-related peptide 3 (Rfrp-3), kisspeptin (Kiss-1) and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), are involved in a photoperiodic pathway that encodes seasonal signals from day length in many vertebrate species. Bile duct injury is one of the most serious complications of LC, which might lead to serious complications. This case because of an intraoperative accidental cut to right anterior inferior lobe bile duct which joins to the cystic duct, after confirming by intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging-guided real-time three-dimensional bile duct reconstruction and performing end-to-end anastomosis of the right anterior inferior lobe bile duct and the gallbladder tube under laparoscopy, the patient was discharged 5 days after surgery, was followed up for 4 months and was disease-free.

The methodology of a new OA(9) (3(4)) matrix and an analysis of variance technique were developed during the optimisation of extracting pesticidal alkaloids from Cynanchum komarovii. Many factors were found to affect the amount of alkaloids extracted: which parts of the plant were used - roots gave the highest yield; particle size of the material - highest yield when the plant was sieved through size 40 mesh; the type of solvent - a mixture of 0.1% hydrochloric acid with industrial alcohol was the best; The ratio of material to solvent - 1 part plant material to eight parts solvent gave the highest extraction; the duration of the extraction - 72 h and the number of re-extractions - three also improved yield.
