Anorexia is a major cause of cancer cachexia and is induced by growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF15), which activates the rearranged during transfection (RET) protein tyrosine kinase in the hindbrain through GDF family receptor α-like (GFRAL), raising the possibility of targeting RET for cancer cachexia treatment. RET-altered cancer patients treated with RET-selective kinase inhibitors gain weight, however, it is unclear whether this results from tumor regression that improves the overall health of patients. Thus, the potential of using a RET inhibitor to address cancer cachexia remains unknown.

Aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are increasingly recognized as promising energy storage systems for mini-grid and mini-off-grid applications due to their advantageous characteristics such as high safety, affordability, and considerable theoretical capacity. However, the long-term cycling performance of ZIBs is hampered by challenges including the uncontrolled dendrite formation, the passivation, and the occurrence of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on the Zn anode. In this study, enhancing ZIB performance by implementing oxide material coatings on Zn metal, serving as a physical barrier at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces to mitigate dendrite growth and suppress the HER is concentrated.

Distal biaxial atropisomers are typical structures in chiral catalysts and ligands and offer a wide variety of applications in biology and materials technology, but the development of efficient synthesis of these valuable scaffolds is still in great demand. Herein, we describe a highly efficient iridium catalyzed asymmetric C-H alkylation reaction that provides a range of new distal biaxial atropisomers with excellent yields (up to 99%) and stereoselectivity (up to 99% ee and essentially one isomer). Based on this unprecedented strategy, a polycyclic skeleton with five successive chiral centers as well as C-C and C-N (or N-N) two distal chiral axes was created successfully in mild circumstances.

Vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA), which can effectively improve quality of life, is a promising therapy for repair and reconstruction after face or body trauma. However, intractable issues are associated with VCA, such as the inevitable multiple immunogenicities of different tissues that cause severe rejection, the limited protocols available for clinical application, and the shortage of donor sources. Zinc metal is a promising candidate for anodes in zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), but its widespread implementation is hindered by dendrite growth in aqueous electrolytes.
