A simple and sensitive method for electrochemical detection of DNA was designed. This DNA sensor was based on a "sandwich" detection strategy, which involved a long capture probe DNA immobilized on glassy carbon electrodes that flanked both the reference DNA and target DNA. Electrochemical signals were measured by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using aquadichloro(benzimidazole)-copper(II), Cu(bzim)(H(2)O)Cl(2), as an electroactive indicator.

Superhydrophobic surfaces in Wenzel and metastable wetting state were prepared and the conversion of such surfaces to ultraphobic surfaces was reported by the application of a fine-scale roughness. Silicon nitride substrates with hexagonally arranged pillars were prepared by micromachining. The two-scale roughness was achieved by coating these substrates with 60 nm silica nanoparticles.

An electrochemical method was used to probe the interaction between 2-aminophenoxazine-3-one (AP) and the short DNA sequence related to the hepatitis B virus (HBV), and an electrochemical DNA biosensor was developed. The voltammetric signals of AP have been investigated at bare glassy carbon electrode (bare GCE), hybrid double-stranded DNA-modified GCE (dsDNA/GCE), and single-stranded DNA-modified GCE (ssDNA/GCE) by means of differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and the peak currents increased with respect to the order of electrodes. The extent of hybridization was evaluated on the basis of the difference between signals of AP with a probe before and after hybridization with the complementary sequence.

Objective: To evaluate the pattern of energy metabolism of patients with chronic viral severe hepatitis.

Methods: Resting energy expenditure (REE) in 55 patients with chronic viral severe was measured with open-circuit indirect calorimetry. Their normal REE was predicted by Harris-Benedict equation (HBE).

A novel CE-based enzyme immunoassay (CE-EIA) method was developed in o-aminophenol (OAP)-H(2)O(2)-horseradish peroxidase (HRP) system and applied to benign liver disease and hyperthyroidism research in the clinical practical field. In the presented method, after the enzyme immunoreaction, the HRP-labeled antibody or HRP-labeled antigen catalyzed the enzyme substrate OAP and H(2)O(2). The product of the enzymatic catalysis reaction 2-aminophenoxazine-3-one (AP) was determined using electrochemical detection on a Pt electrode at the outlet of the reaction capillary.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Co(C(2)H(4)NO(2))(C(9)H(6)NO)(2)]·CH(3)OH, the Co(III) atom is chelated by two quinolin-8-olate and one glycinate anions in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The five-membered chelating glycinate ring assumes an envelope conformation. The complex mol-ecules are assembled by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the expression of GATA-1 and GATA-2 genes in the bone marrow of patients with Monge's disease compared to controls.
  • Results showed that patients with Monge's disease had significantly higher levels of mRNA and proteins for GATA-1 and GATA-2 compared to healthy controls, indicating a potential link to the disease.
  • Additionally, a positive correlation was found between GATA-1 expression and hemoglobin levels, suggesting that these proteins may contribute to the disease's development.

Thirteen new triazoles containing 1,3-dioxolane rings were synthesized and their identities confirmed by means of IR, NMR, MS, elemental analysis and X-ray crystallography. The results of preliminary biological tests show that all of these compounds possess some fungicidal and plant growth regulant activities.

With top-opened chamber system, this paper studied the responses of endogenous hormones abscisic acid (ABA), indoleacetic acid (IAA), zeatin riboside (ZR) and gibberellins (GA3) in gingko leaves to elevated atmospheric CO2 concentration (ambient + 350 micromol x mol(-1), EC). The results showed that EC could decrease the ABA content. After treated with EC for 120 days, the ABA content could be decreased by 63.

Background: Human rickettsioses are worldwide zoonoses and it is not easy to differentiate them from other infectious diseases because of their atypical manifestation. In recent years the number of patients with fever of unknown causes from Hongta District CDC, Yuxi city of Yunnan Province has been increasing significantly in the summer. Diagnosis of scrub typhus was made by local clinicians.

Objective: To examine the expression of uncoupling protein-2 (UCP2) in the granular cell of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and explore its role in embryo development.

Methods: In this prospective study, the levels of UCP2 and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were measured by the chemiluminescence method in the granular cell of 53 women.

Results: Women with low UCP2 level had higher ROS level, suggesting an inverse relationship between them (r=-0.

Superhydrophobic surfaces have drawn a lot of interest both in academia and in industry because of the self-cleaning properties. This critical review focuses on the recent progress (within the last three years) in the preparation, theoretical modeling, and applications of superhydrophobic surfaces. The preparation approaches are reviewed according to categorized approaches such as bottom-up, top-down, and combination approaches.

A novel hybridization indicator, bis(benzimidazole)cadmium(II) dinitrate (Cd(bzim)(2)(NO(3))(2)), was utilized to develop an electrochemical DNA biosensor for the detection of a short DNA sequence related to the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The sensor relies on the immobilization and hybridization of the 21-mer single-stranded oligonucleotide from the HBV long repeat at the glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The hybridization between the probe and its complementary sequence as the target was studied by enhancement of the peak of the Cd(bzim)(2)(2+) indicator using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV).

With wheat and pea seedlings as test materials, this paper studied the effects of UV-C radiation on their leaf photosynthetic characteristics and antioxidant enzyme activities. The results showed that enhanced UV-C radiation could markedly decrease the photosynthetic rate (Pn) , stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr) and carboxylation efficiency (CE) of pea leaves, but for wheat leaves, these parameters were increased first and decreased then. Under UV-C condition, the CO2 compensation point of leaf was increased for pea, but decreased first and increased then for wheat.

In this study, an electrochemical DNA biosensor was developed based on the recognition of target DNA by hybridization detection. The study was carried out using glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with lable-free 21-mer single-stranded oligonucleotides related to hepatitis B virus sequence via covalent immobilization and [Cu(dmp)(H(2)O)Cl(2)] (dmp=2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) as an electrochemical indicator, whose sizes are comparable to those of the small groove of native double-duplex DNA. The method, which is simple and low cost, allows the accumulation of copper complex within the DNA layer.

Objective: Since application of pediatric gastroscopy in the mid-nineteen nineties, there has been a trend that the prevalence rates of pediatric gastritis and duodenal ulcer (DU) are increasing. The diagnosed rate of pediatric gastritis has accounted for 85% - 95% of the total number of children who received gastroscopy, and the rate of DU accounted for 8% - 22%. Such a high rates of the diseases may influence the development of the children severely.
