Article Synopsis
  • Wheat's yield is greatly influenced by tiller numbers, which are affected by phosphorus availability; increasing reliance on phosphorus fertilizers poses environmental risks.
  • In experiments with the wheat variety Kenong 199 under low phosphorus stress, researchers found significant changes in gene expression, identifying 1651 upregulated and 827 downregulated genes related to phosphorus metabolism and growth regulation.
  • The transcription factor TaWRKY74s was highlighted as crucial for low phosphorus tolerance, influencing tiller numbers, with RNAi transgenic plants showing reduced tillers compared to wild types, both under normal and low phosphorus conditions.

A previously undescribed taraxerene-type triterpenoid possessing a class of rare natural taraxerene triterpenoid possessing skeleton with 14, 28-lactone, two undescribed oleane-type triterpenoids, and twenty-five known triterpenoids were isolated from Liquidambar formosana (Hamamelidaceae). The structures of undescribed compounds were determined on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic, HR-ESI-MS, and X-ray crystallographic data analysis. Among the isolates, ursolic acid, 3,6-dion-20(29)-lupen-28-oic acid, and 3-oxo-12α-hydroxyoleanan-28,13β-olide induced a significant apoptosis in SMMC7721 cells in the flow cytometer experiment with apoptosis rates of 94.

We conducted a case-control study to investigate risk factors for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) in the People's Republic of China. Genotyping analysis was used to estimate the percentage of cases from recent transmission among 100 MDR TB case-patients hospitalized during April 2007-July 2009. Molecular subtyping of isolates showed that 41% of MDR TB strains clustered.

Two new cycloartane glycosides were isolated from the whole herbs of Camptosorus sibiricus Rupr. By means of chemical and spectroscopic methods (IR, 1D and 2D NMR, HRMS, ESI MS), the structures were established as (24R)-3beta, 7beta, 24, 25-tetrahydroxycycloartane 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-24-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1) and (24R)-3beta, 7beta, 24, 25-tetrahydroxycycloartane 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-24-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2). At the same time, two new compounds were tested for their cytotoxicities in vitro against human tumor cell lines (A375-S2, Hela).
