Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on a specific genus of basidiomycetes found in subtropical forests of Yunnan, China, which has been under-documented compared to other regions like Eurasia and North America.
  • Three new species were identified through phylogenetic analyses utilizing genetic markers from ribosomal RNA, contributing to our understanding of this genus' diversity in China.
  • The new species vary in characteristics such as the color and structure of their basidiomes and spores, and the research provides a detailed key for identifying these species alongside related ones.

Species of the basidiomycetous genus are widely distributed throughout temperate forests. Numerous studies on the taxonomy and phylogeny of have been conducted from the temperate zone in the Northern hemisphere, but few have been from subtropical forests. In this study, four new species, , , and from the subtropical mixed forests of Southwestern China, are described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS) and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (LSU).
