As the counterparts of noradrenaline and adrenaline in vertebrates, octopamine (OA) regulates multiple physiological and behavioral processes in invertebrate. OA mediates its effects via binding to specific octopamine receptors (OARs). Functional and pharmacological characterization of OARs have been reported in several insects.
