Background: Polycythemia vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm. Ropeginterferon alfa-2b is a new-generation polyethylene glycol-conjugated proline-interferon. It is approved for the treatment of PV at a starting dose of 100 µg (50 µg for patients receiving hydroxyurea (HU)) and dose titrations up to 500 µg by 50 µg increments.

This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of Gomisin B, a natural compound known for its inhibition of CYP3A4, on cognitive dysfunction in APP/PS1 transgenic mice with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Additionally, the study explored the combined effects of Gomisin B and Osthole (OST). The research involved male wild-type (WT) mice and 7-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic AD mice.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses a significant threat to the global elderly population. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely utilized in the treatment of AD. Osthole, a bioactive ingredient classified as an "emperor" in many TCM formulas, has been demonstrated to effectively alleviate AD symptoms.

Oxidative hair dye products have always been one of the key concerns in cosmetic supervision. The various aromatic amine and phenol dyes used in such products have different degrees of sensitization and toxicities. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a rapid and accurate method for the determination of various dyes.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: With the features of multiple-components and targets as well as multifunction, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used in the prevention and treatment of various diseases for a long time. During the application of TCM, the researches about bioavailability enhancement of the bioactive constituents in formula are flourishing. Bushen-Yizhi formula (BSYZ), a TCM prescription with osthole (OST) as one of the main bioactive ingredients, have been widely used to treat kidney deficiency, mental retardation and Alzheimer's disease.

Objective: To establish a method for determination of ten kinds of α-hydroxy acids in cosmetics with quantitative analysis of multi-components by single marker(QAMS).

Methods: The analytes were separated by high performance liquid chromatography on a Venusil XBP C_8 column(4. 6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm), with the mobile phases of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate buffer-methonal under a gradient elution.

Objective: To observe the effects of New Dayuan powder (NDYP) on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilms and the embedded bacteria in vitro.

Methods: 2,3-Bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide (XTT) assays were used to study the effects of NDYP on developing MRSA biofilms: 100 μL of bacterial culture and 100 μL drug solution were added to wells of 96-well plates. After 24 h of incubation, the plates were washed and XTT-phenazine methyl sulfate (PMS) was added to enable counting of the number of live bacteria in biofilms using a microplate reader.

A method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 33 hair dyes in oxidative hair dye products by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The analytes were separated on a Waters Atlantis T3 MV Kit column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm) by gradient elution using phosphate buffer-acetonitrile as mobile phases.

Surface sediments collected from the continental shelf off the western Guangdong Province and northeastern Hainan Island are analyzed for selected heavy metals contents including Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn, and As to determine spatial distribution, potential ecological risks, and sources. In addition, some of the controlling factors of heavy metals distribution are also discussed. The average heavy metals contents decrease in the order of Zn > Cr > Pb > Cu > As > Cd.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aims to create a characteristic HPLC chromatogram for phenols in Ephedrae Herba and analyze the distribution and content of these compounds across three different species: E. sinica, E. intermedia, and E. equisetina.
  • The HPLC-DAD method was developed, utilizing a specific column and mobile phase to achieve effective separation and quantification of the phenolic compounds.
  • Principal component analysis highlighted twelve key peaks from the chromatograms, with significant variations identified in peak areas that help differentiate the origins of the herb, especially peaks 10, 11, and 12 in E. equisetina, and peaks 1 and 4 in E. sinica and E. intermedia.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate gene expression by inhibiting translation or targeting messenger RNA (mRNA) for degradation in a posttranscriptional fashion. In this study, we show that ectopic expression of miR-34a-5p reduces the mRNA and protein levels of Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4). We also demonstrate that miR-34a targets the 3'-untranslated mRNA region of KLF4 and show that overexpression of miR-34a induces a significant level of apoptosis in BNL CL.

We measured the in situ suspended sediment concentration (SSC) and hydrodynamics (waves, currents, and sea level) concurrently during a storm event using self-recording instruments at offshore of the Shandong Peninsula in the Yellow Sea. We analyzed the temporal variation in suspended sediment carrying capacity and its correlation with wave, current, and water-level conditions. There was about 40% increase in SSC during the storm event.
