Background: Knee arthroscopy is a common procedure and is associated with postoperative pain. Intra-articular (IA) injection of morphine for pain control has been widely studied, but its analgesic effect after knee arthroscopy is uncertain.

Objectives: To evaluate the relative effects on pain relief and adverse events of IA morphine given for pain control after knee arthroscopy compared with placebo, other analgesics (local anaesthetics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other opioids) and other routes of morphine administration.

Objective: To establish a non-invasive model for the assessment of portal venous pressure (PVP) based on the magnetic resonance (MR) parameters.

Methods: In this prospective study, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan was performed in 109 patients indicated for upper abdominal surgeries after their written consents were obtained, and intraoperative PVP measurements were completed in 92 patients. Altogether 17 patients were excluded for not undergoing surgery or unsuccessful catheterization.

Background: Perioperative hypertension requires careful management. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers (ARBs) have shown efficacy in treating hypertension associated with surgery. However, there is lack of consensus about whether they can prevent mortality and morbidity.

Barrett esophagus (BE) is an established precursor of esophageal adenocarcinoma (AdenoCa). One hundred and one cases of BE diagnosed by esophageal biopsy and resections were examined morphologically for dysplasia. These were categorized as BE without dysplasia (n=25), indefinite for dysplasia (IND, n=17), low-grade dysplasia (LGD, n=18), high-grade dysplasia (HGD, n=15), and AdenoCa (n=26).

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the effectiveness of various staining methods to identify intestinal metaplasia (IM) in esophageal biopsy specimens diagnosed as Barrett esophagus (BE).
  • All examined cases with IM contained goblet cells, and stains for CDX2 and villin showed positive results in all instances, marking them as reliable indicators.
  • The research suggests that using CDX2 and villin can enhance the diagnostic process, which is crucial for selecting patients for surveillance of this premalignant condition.
