Objectives: The study aimed to examine alterations in voxel-based degree centrality (DC) and functional connectivity (FC), and their relationship with cognitive impairments in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1).

Methods: Eighteen DM1 patients and eighteen healthy controls participated in the study and were assessed using a comprehensive neuropsychological battery. Voxel-wise DC and FC analyses were used to assess abnormalities in functional connections among aberrant hubs.

Dual-band photodetection of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light is an advanced technology aimed at simultaneously or selectively detecting signals from these two distinct wavelength bands. This technique offers broad application prospects, particularly in environments requiring multispectral information. In this work, a solar-blind UV photodetector made from an amorphous GaO (a-GaO) thin film was combined with a short-wave infrared photodetector made from a HgTe colloidal quantum dot (CQD) film.

Objectives: Despite the versatility of flap designs for lower lip reconstruction, the notion of orbicularis oris (OO) ring integrity was barely stressed. Traditional flap transfer leads to fibrous orientation inconsistency with the remaining OO. Therefore, the aim of this study is to share the experience of combining local flaps with depressor anguli oris (DAO) transfer for lower lip reconstruction and OO sphincter function restoration.

The lip is a crucial structure in the oral and maxillofacial region, serving vital physiological functions such as speech, swallowing, chewing, and expression. Due to the complexity of lip anatomy, function, and the various types of defects, the functional restoration and reconstruction of lip defects remain complex and challenging tasks. In this article, we summarize several methods for functional restoration and reconstruction of lip defects using local flaps that carry the depressor anguli oris muscle, as well as some free flaps.

Background: Miscarriage has the characteristics of recurrent attacks and complex etiology, so it is gradually attracted the wide attention of scholars in the fields of reproduction. Potential association between gut microbiome (GM) and pregnancy disorders has been investigated. Jianwei Shoutai pills (JWP), as a representative formula, have been proven to have protective effect in both clinical and experimental research in miscarriage.

Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are of interest for optoelectronic devices because of the possibility of high-throughput solution processing and the wide energy gap tunability from ultraviolet to infrared wavelengths. People may question about the upper limit on the CQD wavelength region. To date, although the CQD absorption already reaches terahertz, the practical photodetection wavelength is limited within mid-wave infrared.

Previous studies have provided evidence of structural and functional changes in the brains of patients with tension-type headache (TTH). However, investigations of functional connectivity alterations in TTH have been inconclusive. The present study aimed to investigate abnormal intrinsic functional connectivity patterns in patients with TTH through the voxel-wise degree centrality (DC) method as well as functional connectivity (FC) analysis.

Sucrose content is a key factor for the flavor of edible peanut, which determines the sweet taste of fresh peanut and also attribute to pleasant flavor of roasted peanut. To explore the genetic mechanism of the sucrose content in peanut, an F population was created by crossing the sweet cultivar Zhonghuatian 1 (ZHT1) with Nanyangbaipi (NYBP). A genomic region spanning 28.

Background: A poor evidence basis exists regarding directly comparing objective and subjective donor-site morbidity associated with the forearm flap. The authors evaluated the postoperative donor-site complications and quality-of-life outcomes between the radial forearm free flap (RFFF) and the ulnar forearm free flap (UFFF).

Methods: All patients undergoing RFFF or UFFF harvest were included.

Background: To achieve improved functional outcomes in subtotal tongue reconstruction, a flap design with sufficient volume and appropriate shape is necessary. In this study, we introduce an "Individualized and Convenient Tongue Model" (ICTM) for flap design in subtotal tongue reconstruction.

Methods: By studying the anatomical morphology of the tongue, we found a similar geometry within the dorsum and body of the tongue as well as the mouth floor.

Article Synopsis
  • Peanut is a major global oilseed crop, providing vegetable oil, protein, and essential nutrients, with China being the leading producer and consumer.
  • The study focuses on using the red fluorescence protein DsRed2 as a novel visual marker to enhance the genetic transformation efficiency in peanuts, which traditionally suffers from low screening capabilities.
  • DsRed2 successfully improved transformation rates from 56.9% to 100% and facilitated the identification of transgenic plants in various plant parts, suggesting its effectiveness as a tool for both transformation screening and hybrid plant identification.

Due to thermal carriers generated by a narrow mid-infrared energy gap, cooling is always necessary to achieve ideal photodetection. In quantum dot (QD), the electron thermal generation should be reduced with quantum confinement in all three dimensions. As a result, there would be a great potential to realize high-operating-temperature (HOT) QD mid-IR photodetectors, though not yet achieved.

Spontaneous abortion (SA) has received more and more attention in light of its increasing incidence. However, the causes and pathogenesis of SA remain largely unknown, especially for those without any pathological features. In this study, we characterized the vaginal microbiota diversity and composition of pregnant women in their first trimester and evaluated the association between the vaginal microbiota and SA before 12 weeks of gestation.

The early diagnosis and treatment of ectopic pregnancy (EP) remains a major challenge. Despite a known link between vaginal microbiota and female reproductive health, few studies have focused on the association between vaginal microbiota and pregnancy location. This nested case-control study aimed to characterize the vaginal microbiota in tubal pregnancy (TP) among symptomatic women in early pregnancy.

The peanut ( L.) is an important oilseed crop worldwide. Compared to other common edible vegetable oils, peanut oil contains a higher content of saturated fatty acids (SFAs), approximately 20-40% of which are very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the transcriptome of peanut seeds to understand gene function and its impact on physical traits.
  • It identifies nearly 50,000 genes in a recombinant inbred line population, revealing 1,207 local and 15,837 distant expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) that influence transcriptomic variation.
  • The research also discovers a key candidate gene linked to the trait of purple testa color and demonstrates the value of transcriptomic analysis for studying complex traits in non-model plants.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 in rats with periodontitis and atherosclerosis.

Methods: Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group (C), periodontitis group (P), atherosclerosis group (AS), and periodontitis plus atherosclerosis group (P + AS). The levels of MIF and ICAM-1 in serum were detected by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA), also known as hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IV, is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disorder. This study investigated the oral and craniofacial manifestations of a 7-year-old Chinese boy affected by CIPA and identified 2 novel mutations in the NTRK1 gene, and a new feature of the disorder was identified. The patient had typical features, including insensitivity to pain, anhidrosis, and mental retardation; recurrent fractures and osteoporosis also were noted.
