Developing efficient and durable electrodes for overall water splitting (OWS) in seawater electrolytes is a major challenge. Herein, we synthesized highly active and stable Fe(CoNi)SSe medium-entropy metal sulfoselenide (MESSe) nanoparticles for the electrodes. The Fe(CoNi)SSe MESSe electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance in alkaline simulated seawater, with a η100 value of 156 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction and 262 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction.

Constructing an artificial solid electrolyte interface protective layer on the surface of the zinc anode is an effective strategy for addressing dendrite growth, passivation, and the hydrogen evolution reaction in aqueous zinc-ion batteries. This study introduces a robust interlayer composed of a polyvinyl butyral matrix decorated with SiO particles (PS). Adsorption of water by Si-OH on the surface of SiO leads to excellent hydrophilicity and accelerates the desolvation of ions.

We developed a method for the determination of chloropropanol esters and glycidyl esters (GE) in instant noodles using solid-phase microextraction with chitosan-β-cyclodextrin (CS-β-CD) coated fiber coupled with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The developed low-cost fiber coating can improve the sensitivity of the method. Immobilized enzymes can improve operational stability and reusability compared to free enzymes, thereby reducing costs.

We developed an analytical method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection, using a stir bar coated with amino/hydroxyl bifunctional microporous organic network (B-MON), for the analysis of parabens in breast milk samples. Gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) have appeared as an essential alternative to traditional quantum dots and fluorescent molecules for the development of intelligent stimuli-responsive photoluminescence (PL), but the low PL emission of Au NCs restricts their broad applications. Herein, we reported a simple yet effective strategy for preparing Au NCs with high PL by ligands engineering of 4-hydroxy-2-mercapto-6-methylpyrimidine (MTU) and L-Arginine (Arg). Owing to the rigidified shell and the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) effects, it was found that the assembly of Arg ligand on MTU-protected Au NCs (Arg/MTU-Au NCs) led to a significantly enhanced PL in the alkaline solution up to 30 times.

In order to investigate the effect of intermittent mild cold stimulation (IMCS) on immune function of spleens and adaptability to cold stress in broilers, 400 healthy 1-day-old Ross-308 chickens were divided into 5 groups: CC (control) reared in normal thermal environment from 1 to 49 d; CS3, CS4, CS5, and CS6 (treatments) raised at 3°C below the temperature of CC for 3, 4, 5, or 6 h at 1-d intervals from 15 to 35 d, respectively. Subsequently, CS3-6 was raised at 20°C from 36 to 49 d. At 50 d, all groups were exposed to acute cold stress (ACS) for 12 h.

Heat-shock protein-90 is an attractive target for anticancer drugs, as heat-shock protein-90 blockers such as the ansamycin 17-(allylamino)-17-demethoxygeldanamycin greatly reduce the expression of many signaling molecules that are disregulated in cancer cells and are key drivers of tumor growth and metastasis. While 17-(allylamino)-17-demethoxygeldanamycin has shown promise in clinical trials, this compound class has significant template-related drawbacks. A submicrometer-scaled polystyrene/melamine-formaldehyde hollow microsphere composite was prepared by self-assembling of sulfonated polystyrene (SPS) latex particles at the interface of emulsion droplets and then being fixed in place using a hard melamine-formaldehyde (MF) composite layer. For control-released purposes, the influential factors that control the size and uniformity of the packed-droplets and the permeability of the composite shell, including the initial particle location, the hydrophilicity and the size of colloidal templates, the oil phase solvent and reserving time of emulsions after the addition of MF prepolymer, were further studied. Relatively uniform sized particle packed-droplets with an average diameter of 10 microm were obtained.

The population genetics and phylogeography of Trema dielsiana in Taiwan were inferred from genetic diversity at the nonsymbiotic hemoglobin gene and the trnL-trnF intergenic spacer of cpDNA. Reduced genetic variation was detected in these two unlinked genes. The gene genealogy of the hemoglobin locus recovered two lineages corresponding to the western and eastern regions of Taiwan.

UDP-glucose dehydrogenase catalyzes the NAD+-dependent twofold oxidation of UDP-glucose to give UDP-glucuronic acid. A sequestered aldehyde intermediate is produced in the first oxidation step and a covalently bound thioester is produced in the second oxidation step. This work demonstrates that the Streptococcus pyogenes enzyme incorporates a single solvent-derived oxygen atom during catalysis and probably does not generate an imine intermediate.
