Background: Difficulties in microbiologically confirming childhood tuberculosis (TB) can result in delayed treatment and increased disease severity.

Methods: In this study, we for the first time used whole genome next-generation sequencing (NGS) to detect cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in plasma from children.

Results: We enrolled 94 children with active TB and 32 children with other respiratory infections.

Objective: This study examines the sequential mediating roles of body pain and self-reported health in the association between sleep duration and self-reported life satisfaction among elderly Chinese adults.

Methods: Data from the fifth wave of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS) were used to analyse the relationships between sleep duration and body pain, self-reported health, and life satisfaction through logistic regression and Restricted Cubic Spline (RCS) analyses. The sequential mediation effects of body pain and self-reported health status were examined chain mediation analysis.

Objectives: Procalcitonin (PCT) is a critical diagnostic biomarker for bacterial infections in patients. Numerous studies have shown that PCT have high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing bloodstream infection. However, the cut-off value of PCT for the diagnosis of bloodstream infections in patients with hematolgic diseases is still unclear and unreliable.

Objective: A growing body of research shows that the organizational silence among nurses not only affects their job satisfaction and performance but also exacerbates their intention to leave their jobs, posing a threat to the long-term stability of the nursing team. Therefore, the aim of this study was to synthesize existing qualitative research to explore the real experiences of nurses' organizational silence behavior and gain insight into the motivations and feelings behind it.

Design: A qualitative review.

Great attentions have been paid to anticorrosion coatings with self-healing performances to enhance its reliability and protection period, but massive challenges still remain for developing a coating with selectively triggered and accurately controllable self-healing behaviors. Herein, by integrating lamellar graphene oxide (GO) into a polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber loaded with 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) corrosion inhibitors, a composite coating with precisely controllable self-healing capabilities is developed. The coating defects can be remotely and accurately repaired under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation within a very short time.

Protein ubiquitination is an important regulatory mechanism for biological growth and development against environmental influences, and can affect several biological processes, including the growth, development, and stress responses of plants. However, the function of potato-related ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes in abiotic stress tolerance is poorly understood. In this study, a with a UBC conserved structural domain was identified in potato and its function was investigated under osmotic stress and salt stress conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Accurate differentiation between non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is essential for surgical decisions, with the study focusing on optimizing T2-weighted MRI sequences for better assessments.
  • The researchers developed a multi-view fusion self-distillation (MVSD) model that uses both transverse and sagittal MRI views to improve classification of MIBC and NMIBC through enhanced feature extraction and integration of 3D information.
  • The MVSD model outperformed traditional deep learning methods and even surpassed the accuracy of two urologists, achieving a notable area under the curve (AUC) of 0.927 and an accuracy rate of 0.880, indicating strong potential for preoperative diagnosis of

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is the causative agent of infectious bronchitis (IB), a severe disease that primarily affects young chickens and poses a significant challenge to the global poultry industry. Understanding the complex interaction between the virus and its host is vital for developing innovative antiviral strategies. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays a crucial role in regulating host antiviral immune responses.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are believed to migrate to injury sites, release chemical attractants, and either recruit local stem cells or modulate the immune system positively. Although MSCs are highly desired for their potential to reduce inflammation and promote tissue regeneration, their limited lifespan restricts their applications. This study presents a simple approach for protecting MSCs with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and magnesium (Mg) based metal-organic framework coatings (E-Mg@MSC).

Gene therapy offers a promising avenue for treating ischemic diseases, yet its clinical efficacy is hindered by the limitations of single gene therapy and the high oxidative stress microenvironment characteristic of such conditions. Lipid-polymer hybrid vectors represent a novel approach to enhance the effectiveness of gene therapy by harnessing the combined advantages of lipids and polymers. In this study, we engineered lipid-polymer hybrid nanocarriers with tailored structural modifications to create a versatile membrane fusion lipid-nuclear targeted polymer nanodelivery system (FLNPs) optimized for gene delivery.

In this paper, the multi-task dense-feature-fusion survival prediction (DFFSP) model is proposed to predict the three-year survival for glioblastoma (GBM) patients based on radiogenomics data. The contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (T1w) image, T2-weighted (T2w) image and copy number variation (CNV) is used as the input of the three branches of the DFFSP model. This model uses two image extraction modules consisting of residual blocks and one dense feature fusion module to make multi-scale fusion of T1w and T2w image features as backbone.

The development of engineered or modified autologous stem cells is an effective strategy to improve the efficacy of stem cell therapy. In this study, the stemness and functionality of adipose stem cells derived from type 1 diabetic donors (T1DM-ASC) were enhanced by treatment with Cu(II)-baicalein microflowers (Cu-MON). After treatment with Cu-MON, T1DM-ASC showed enhanced expression of the genes involved in the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway and increased cytokine secretion.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the complexities of a conventional building drainage system, which is actually a three-phase flow involving water, air, and solids, rather than just the two-phase flow previously assumed.
  • It examines how solids affect pressure changes, air flow rates, and hydraulic jump fullness, focusing on three main factors: mass, cross-section, and viscosity.
  • Results show that the mass and cross-section factors significantly influence negative pressure, with growth rates up to 16.52%, while viscosity primarily affects positive pressure fluctuations, peaking at a growth rate of 3.41%.

Direct saline (seawater) electrolysis is a well-recognized system to generate active chlorine species for the chloride-mediated electrosynthesis, environmental remediation and sterilization over the past few decades. However, the large energy consumption originated from the high cell voltage of traditional direct saline electrolysis system, greatly restricts its practical application. Here, we report an acid-saline hybrid electrolysis system for energy-saving co-electrosynthesis of active chlorine and H.
