Cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs), the members of the largest superfamily of enzymes in plant kingdom, catalyze a variety of functional group transformations involved in metabolite biosynthesis, end-product derivatization, and exogeneous molecule detoxification. Nevertheless, CYPs' functional characterization and practically industrial application have been largely encumbered by their critical dependency on the reducing equivalent for the catalytic cycling, driven by the tedious electron relay mediated by CYP reductase (CPR). Here, we report a photoinduced electron transfer system that initiates and sustains the CYP-catalyzed reaction cycling.

Zygotic genome activation occurs in two-cell (2C) embryos, and a 2C-like state is also activated in sporadic (~1%) naïve embryonic stem cells in mice. Elevated chromatin accessibility is critical for the 2C-like state to occur, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Zscan4 exhibits burst expression in 2C embryos and 2C-like cells.

This study presents the design, fabrication, and characterization of a wide field-of-view (FOV) metalens optimized for capsule endoscopy. The metalens achieved a 165° FOV with a high modulation transfer function (MTF) of 300 lines per millimeter (lp/mm) across the entire FOV, operating in the near-infrared (NIR) narrow-bandpass imaging at 940 nm. The performance of the metalens-based system is evaluated using two bandwidths, 12 nm and 32 nm, showing MTF values of 0.

To cope with the rapid preparation and tunable function of terahertz (THz) devices, a kind of THz beam meta-deflector (BMD) based on a bilayer metasurface doublet is proposed to implement tunable beam deflection with additional functions. By superimposing functional phases on one of the layers and sliding the other layer, the BMDs can achieve continuously beam deflection with beam splitting or beam focusing. It is possible to quickly switch between different functions by replacing the functional phase.

The phenomenon of rapid migration of photogenerated charges in natural photosynthetic systems has motivated the design of efficient photocatalysts capable of fast charge separation and efficient reaction kinetics for photocatalytically assisted enrichment and separation of uranium U(VI) in uranium wastewater. In this study, we developed a biomimetic photocatalytic system MnO/NH-UiO-66-rGO (M/UiO-rGO) with spatially separated dual cocatalysts. Among them, rGO functions to capture electrons and participates in reduction reactions, while MnO captures holes and participates in oxidation reactions.

Unintentional, early pregnancy alcohol consumption affects embryonic development. During the peri-implantation stage, coinciding with the transition from naive to primed pluripotency, the long isoform of KDM2B (KDM2BLF) underlies the de novo establishment of polycomb repressive complex (PRC) functions at promoters after fertilization. However, it remains unclear whether and how ethanol exposure affects this spatiotemporal chromatin setting.

Agriculture is the largest anthropogenic source of NO emissions and plays a crucial role in global greenhouse gas mitigation. In an increasingly populated world with growing food demands, a precise and high-resolution spatial prediction of agricultural NO emissions becomes essential in reducing global emissions. In this study, an integrated assessment model coupled with the land cover downscaling module is employed to predict crop-specific NO emissions at a 0.

The rhizosphere microbial community helps govern biogeochemical cycling and facilitates complex plant-soil feedback. Understanding the evolutionary dynamics of microbial community structure and functional genes during vegetation succession is crucial for quantifying and understanding ecosystem processes and functions in restored sandy deserts. In this study, the rhizosphere microbial community structure of 11-66-year-old dominant shrubs in a desert revegetation area was examined using shotgun metagenomic sequencing.

A tri-layer chiral metasurface with multi-functions of asymmetric transmission (AT), polarization conversion (PC) and circular dichroism (CD) is proposed in the terahertz (THz) range. Simulation results show that the metasurface is able to realize AT with more than 90% efficiency and PC fractional bandwidth of 80% over a frequency range of 0.15 to 0.

Fraser syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by multiple congenital malformations, including cryptophthalmos, syndactyly, and renal agenesis, which can lead to severe complications beginning at the embryonic stage. Mutations in genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins such as FRAS1, FREM1, FREM2, and the associated trafficking protein GRIP1, are implicated in Fraser syndrome. These proteins are critical for maintaining epithelial integrity during embryogenesis, with deficiencies leading to tissue detachment and blistering phenotypes in mouse models.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and robot technology has spurred the proposal and innovation of a coal gangue sorting robot system (CGSRS) paradigm. The time-varying raw coal flow (TVRCF) with multi-scene and full working conditions affects the gangue queue. Configuring the CGSRS scheme correctly is combative.

Article Synopsis
  • Optical pattern recognition (OPR) shows promise for terahertz (THz) imaging by enabling single-point detection, which can cut down system costs.
  • Traditional OPR methods struggle with image recognition when the input image is rotated or scaled, causing recognition errors.
  • A new all-optical diffractive deep neural network has been developed, which maintains a stable recognition spot regardless of image rotation (0° to 360°) or scaling (size ratio of 1 to 1/1.9), potentially improving THz imaging and security applications.

CuIn(SSe) nanocrystals as an emerging class of functional materials present huge potential for industrial applications; however, the synthesis of CuIn(SSe) nanocrystals remains a formidable challenge in achieving both tunable band gap and phase. Here, we reported a facile hot-injection method for synthesizing a family of wurtzite CuIn(SSe) nanocrystals, enabling manipulation of the S and Se contents across the entire compositional range (0 ≤ ≤ 1). The obtained nanocrystals exhibit band gaps ranging from 1.

Misfolded glycoproteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) lumen are translocated into the cytosol and degraded by the proteasome, a conserved process called ER-associated protein degradation (ERAD). In , the glycan of these proteins is trimmed by the luminal mannosidase Mnl1 (Htm1) to generate a signal that triggers degradation. Curiously, Mnl1 is permanently associated with protein disulfide isomerase (Pdi1).

Article Synopsis
  • - The rise in antibiotic use, more immunocompromised people, and drug-resistant fungi have led to more invasive fungal infections, highlighting the need for effective treatments.
  • - Iodiconazole, a potent azole antifungal, has poor stability; researchers created new triazole compounds with an ethynyl group to enhance stability and effectiveness against fungi.
  • - Among these compounds, 20l emerged as a strong antifungal that not only works against drug-resistant strains but also shows improved stability and low toxicity, suggesting it could be a promising new treatment option.

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are emerging as a serious infectious disease worldwide. Due to the lack of effective antifungal drugs and serious drug resistance, the number of people with low immunity is increasing, leading to high morbidity and mortality. Azole drugs targeting CYP51 are widely used in the treatment of invasive fungal infections.

The 2023 work report of the Chinese government underscores a pivotal transition towards a "dual-control" policy, prioritizing the management of carbon emissions. This study provides an in-depth analysis of the interplay between the digital economy, technological progress, and their impact on the total volume and intensity of carbon emissions across 30 Chinese provinces from 2013 to 2021. Our findings reveal that while the expansion of the digital economy and technological progress contribute to an increase in the total carbon emissions, they also markedly decrease carbon intensity, paving the way for sustainability.
