Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a squamous cell carcinoma originating in the nasopharynx, is a leading malignancy in south China and other south and east Asia areas. It is frequently associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, while there are also some NPC patients without EBV infection. Here, it is shown that the EBV+ (EBV positive) and EBV- (EBV negative) NPCs contain both shared and distinct genetic abnormalities, among the latter are increased mutations in TP53.

Double expressor lymphoma (DEL), characterized by high expressions of both MYC and BCL-2, displays poor prognosis after current therapies. The HDAC inhibitor chidamide has been approved for treatment of T cell lymphoma, but its efficacy on B cell lymphoma is unclear. Here, by combining inhibition screening and transcriptomic analyses, we found that the sensitivity of B lymphoma cells to chidamide was positively correlated with the expression levels of MYC.

The cell identity of malignant cells and how they acquire it are fundamental for our understanding of cancer. Here, we report that esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells display molecular features equally similar but distinct to all three types of normal esophageal epithelial cells, which we term as confused cell identity (CCI). CCI is an independent prognostic marker associated with poor prognosis in ESCC.

The essential transcription factor PoxCxrA is required for cellulase and xylanase gene expression in the filamentous fungus Penicillium oxalicum that is potentially applied in biotechnological industry as a result of the existence of the integrated cellulolytic and xylolytic system. However, the regulatory mechanism of cellulase and xylanase gene expression specifically associated with PoxCxrA regulation in fungi is poorly understood. In this study, the novel regulator PoxCbh (POX06865), containing a centromere protein B-type helix-turn-helix domain, was identified through screening for the PoxCxrA regulon under Avicel induction and genetic analysis.
