The Rehmannia glutinosa polysaccharides (RGP) have various benefits such as enhancing immune cell activity, decreasing oxidative stress and delaying or inhibiting tumor occurrence. Although much research has been directed at understanding the role of RGP, its influence on gut immunity is largely understudied. Here, we aimed to dissect the immune-regulating effects of RGP in the mice intestines.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Endometritis is a common reproductive disease in dairy cattle after calving, characterized by persistent inflammation of the endometrium. YiMu-QingGong San (YMQGS), a patented Chinese medicine formulation, has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of clinical endometritis in dairy cattle. However, the potential mechanisms by which YMQGS alleviates endometritis remain unclear.

Background: Matrine is a tetracyclic quinolizidine alkaloid with diverse bioactive properties, including anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. However, the underlying anti-inflammatory mechanisms remain unclear.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore how matrine reduces Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in RAW 264.

Most infectious diseases are caused by pathogens that invade the body tissues through mucosal tract. Therefore, it is essential to develop effective vaccines administered through the mucosa as a first-line of defense against major infectious diseases. Oral delivery of vaccines is currently of great interest due to its potential to elicit both mucosal and systemic immune responses, high compliance rate and non-invasive nature.

Avian influenza virus subtype HN has the ability to infect birds and humans, further causing significant losses to the poultry industry and even posing a great threat to human health. Oral vaccine received particular interest for preventing majority infection due to its ability to elicit both mucosal and systemic immune responses, but their development is limited by the bad gastrointestinal (GI) environment, compact epithelium and mucus barrier, and the lack of effective mucosal adjuvants. Herein, we developed the dendritic fibrous nano-silica (DFNS) grafted with Cistanche deserticola polysaccharide (CDP) nanoparticles (CDP-DFNS) as an adjuvant for HN vaccine.

Article Synopsis
  • - Rosa laevigata Michx. polysaccharides (RLP) show potential in combating ulcerative colitis (UC) due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, although the specific mechanisms have yet to be fully understood.
  • - A study using beagles to model UC demonstrated that RLP supplementation significantly improved symptoms like weight loss and diarrhea caused by induced colitis.
  • - Analysis of gut bacteria revealed that RLP helps restore a healthy microbiome by increasing beneficial bacteria and decreasing harmful ones, suggesting it aids in strengthening the intestinal barrier and gut health.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral vaccines offer a promising, less invasive alternative to injected vaccines but face challenges like the harsh gastrointestinal environment and low immunogenicity.
  • Recent research focused on nanoparticle-based strategies, specifically dendritic fibrous nano-silica (DFNS) combined with Cistanche deserticola polysaccharide (CDP), to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of oral vaccines.
  • The study found that CDP-DFNS improved antigen uptake by immune cells, activated various immune responses, and resulted in stronger memory T cell responses, suggesting its potential as a novel oral vaccine adjuvant delivery system.
