Bacteriophages are promising alternatives for combating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Two lytic bacteriophages, named P1 and P3, targeting pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC; strain TZ1_3) were isolated and evaluated for their potential ability to control pathogenic numbers either in ExPEC-contaminated food or ExPEC-infected mice. Results showed that phages significantly reduced ExPEC numbers within 6 and 12 h in contaminated water, milk, beef, and chicken when applied at 10 plaque-forming units (PFU).

The spontaneous self-organization of naturally-occurring polysaccharide particles into a thick and robust gel network at interface in Pickering emulsion is challenging. Inspired by the phenomenon that chitosan microgels (CSMs) with a certain size could self-associate into a solidified gel phase upon freezing, here we tentatively used CSMs to construct a highly-stable Pickering emulsion. CSMs can form a stable Langmuir's layer at the water/oil interface through the network deformation and re-arrangement of dangling chains, while the subsequent negative polymer coating can avoid the bridging resulting from the cross-association for CSMs on different emulsion droplets upon freezing.

Chinese gay men and lesbians are faced with multiple challenges by living in a heteronormative society, and marriage is considered to be a major concern among this group of people. Anchoring from the lens of discourse, this research carried out a qualitative study by interviewing 21 gay men and lesbians to explore how they refer to the discourse to justify their choices when faced with the pressure to marry, so as to align themselves more with the mainstream social values. Results indicate that when faced with the pressure to marry, gay men and lesbians refer to the discourse to construct a positive same-sex identity and civilized community, pursue civilized same-sex relationships, or construct a flexible life.

We studied the expression profile and ontogeny (from the egg stage through the larval stages and pupal stages, to the elderly adult age) of four OBPs from the silkworm moth . We first showed that male responsiveness to female sex pheromone in the silkworm moth does not depend on age variation; whereas the expression of BmorPBP1, BmorPBP2, BmorGOBP1, and BmorGOBP2 varies with age. The expression profile analysis revealed that the studied OBPs are expressed in non-olfactory tissues at different developmental stages.
