Rationale And Objectives: To investigate the effect of accelerated deep-learning (DL) multi-b-value DWI (Mb-DWI) on acquisition time, image quality, and predictive ability of microvascular invasion (MVI) in BCLC stage A hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), compared to standard Mb-DWI.

Methods: Patients who underwent liver MRI were prospectively collected. Subjective image quality, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), lesion contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and Mb-DWI-derived parameters from various models (mono-exponential model, intravoxel incoherent motion, diffusion kurtosis imaging, and stretched exponential model) were calculated and compared between the two sequences.

Article Synopsis
  • Hilar cholangiocarcinoma (h-CCA) is a challenging cancer that starts in the bile duct's epithelial cells, often diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to high mortality rates.
  • For patients who can't undergo surgery, systemic therapy and emerging immunotherapies provide new hope, while radical surgery remains the best option for improved survival.
  • Advancements in imaging technologies and techniques, such as near-infrared fiberscopes, are enhancing surgeons' ability to achieve tumor-free margin resections during operations.

  • This study investigates how exposure to metals during pregnancy affects the liver function of fetuses, focusing on umbilical liver enzymes.
  • Analyzing data from 450 mother-newborn pairs, researchers found a connection between higher levels of certain metals in maternal and cord blood and increased levels of liver enzymes like GGT, ALP, ALT, and AST in newborns.
  • Specific metals, such as arsenic and lead, showed strong positive relationships with liver enzyme levels, while zinc had an inverse effect, indicating that prenatal exposure to certain metals may negatively impact fetal liver function.

Sonodynamic anti-cancer therapy relies on the highly active singlet oxygen to induce potent cell death. However, the non-specific biodistribution of sonosensitizers post systemic administration results in a significant accumulation in the skin, and hence the daylight-induced phototoxicity. Here, we report a smart metal-organic framework-based nanocarrier with titanium dioxide (TiO) as the sonosensitizer for reduced phototoxicity in the skin.

Spatiotemporally controlled cargo release is a key advantage of nanocarriers in anti-tumor therapy. Various external or internal stimuli-responsive nanomedicines have been reported for their ability to increase drug levels at the diseased site and enhance therapeutic efficacy through a triggered release mechanism. Redox-manipulating nanocarriers, by exploiting the redox imbalances in tumor tissues, can achieve precise drug release, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing damage to healthy cells.

Perylenequinones (PQs) are important natural compounds that have been extensively utilized in recent years as agents for antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiviral photodynamic therapies. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms regulating PQ biosynthesis by comparing sp. Slf14 with its low PQ titer mutant, Slf14(w).

Ferroptosis has been recognized as a promising therapeutic strategy for cancer due to its unique mechanism of action. However, the upregulation of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) in ovarian cancer leads to resistance to ferroptotic therapy. Zinc ion (Zn) serves as the cofactor of SCD1.

Background: The prognosis for patients with kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) remains unfavorable, and the understanding of SRY-box transcription factor 11 (SOX11) in KIRC is still limited. The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of SOX11 in the prognosis of KIRC.

Methods: We analyzed SOX11 expression in KIRC and adjacent normal tissues using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases.

Medium-voltage (MV) switchgear and gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are essential components of power-grid systems. Their safe operation is crucial for the electricity consumption of users. However, insulation faults often occur during the operation of MV switchgear and GIS because of pollution, humidity, heat, mechanical shock, and other factors.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of mechanical thrombectomy combined with prolonged mild hypothermia compared with conventional treatment in managing acute middle cerebral artery occlusion, and to explore whether extending the duration of hypothermia can improve neurological function.

Method: From 2018 to June 2023, a retrospective analysis was conducted on 45 patients with acute middle cerebral artery occlusion treated at the NICU of Suzhou Kowloon Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. After thrombectomy, patients were admitted to the neurological intensive care unit (NICU) for targeted temperature management.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ternary cuprous (Cu)-based metal halides like cesium copper iodide (CsCuI) are emerging as potential materials for light-emitting applications due to their high photoluminescence quantum yield and direct band gap.
  • - Most current Cu-based halides have low structural dimensionality (0D or 1D), but researchers have now developed a new 2D layered structure using a fluorinated organic cation known as (DFPD)CuX.
  • - This new material, particularly (DFPD)CuBr, shows promising features such as enhanced ambient stability and efficient warm white-light emission, suggesting it could be an effective choice for lighting and display technologies.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the reliability and validity of the Perioperative Anxiety Scale-7 (PAS-7), which was created by Chinese medical professionals, by using the State-Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI-S) as the standard for the diagnosis of preoperative anxiety, and to compare whether there is a difference between the PAS-7 and the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) in the diagnosis of preoperative anxiety in the Chinese population.

Design: This study was an observational study.

Methods: The PAS-7, APAIS, and STAI-S were all completed the day before surgery.
