We propose what we believe to be a novel direct detection phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) based on ultra-weak fiber Bragg grating (UWFBG) array to achieve distributed vibration measurements with exceptional sensitivity and remarkable stability. Our system employs a pulse modulator to generate a double pulse and achieves linear phase modulation of one pulse by one cycle through a phase modulator. The phase change can be quantitatively demodulated using our proposed N-step phase-shifted demodulation algorithm.

The strain and the imperfect repeatability of the laser source may cause a location deviation of the OFDR measurement system, resulting in a demodulation error. This paper proposes to use the peak-to-average ratio (PAR) to measure the quality of the correlation results and achieve compensation, which achieves efficient compensation for location deviation.

In recent years, modern industrial monitoring has called for comprehensive multi-parameter measurements to accurately identify fault events. The hybrid DOFS technology, which combines the Rayleigh, Brillouin, and Raman scattering mechanisms and integrates multiple DOFS systems in a single configuration, has attracted growing attention and has been developed rapidly.

It significantly improves the performance of the distributed acoustic sensing system (DAS) because the intensity of the reflected signal is much higher than that of the Rayleigh backscattering. This paper shows that Rayleigh backscattering (RBS) has become one of the primary noise sources in the UWFBG array-based Φ-OTDR system.

The technique divides one of the probe pulses into three sections and introduces successive 2π/3 phase differences into each section. By using a simple direct detection scheme, it can achieve distributed and quantitative vibration measurement along the UWFBG array.

Objective: The tyrosine-protein kinase inhibitor, genistein, can inhibit cell malignant transformation and has an antitumor effect on various types of cancer. It has been shown that both genistein and KNCK9 can inhibit colon cancer. This research aimed to investigate the suppressive effects of genistein on colon cancer cells and the association between the application of genistein and KCNK9 expression level.

We demonstrate a distributed optical fiber sensor (DOFS) for simultaneous vibration and temperature/strain sensing based on the integration of Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry (BOTDR) and phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR). A double heterodyne detection configuration is set up to receive the Rayleigh scattering and Brillouin scattering simultaneously, which can enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reduce the polarization fading noise for the Brillouin signal at the same time.

Non-surgical treatments of AIS, including bracing, has the following limitations: i) sensor-less design and lack of closed-loop control on the motion and forces exerted on the torso result in no adaption to the skeletal changes during the treatment, ii) lack of interaction control may also make the brace inconvenient and insecure for the patient. In this paper, a novel robotic exoskeleton equipped with linear actuators, position, and force sensors is developed to control the motion and forces exerted on the torso.

Edible oils are indispensable food components, because they are used for cooking or frying. However, during processing, transport, storage, and consumption, edible oils are susceptible to oxidation, during which various primary and secondary oxidative products are generated. These products may reduce the nutritional value and safety of edible oils and even harm human health.
