Article Synopsis
  • Mitochondria-associated membranes (MAM) are now thought to play a key role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis, shifting focus from the amyloid cascade explanation.
  • The protein connexin43 (Cx43) is identified as crucial for maintaining MAM structure and function, with its levels increasing in AD model mice.
  • Disruption of Cx43 leads to decreased MAM contact sites, hindering autophagy and promoting β-amyloid clearance, suggesting Cx43 could be targeted for new AD therapies.
